In concept, Wraith Squadron is the best X-Wing book yet. A group of down on their luck pilots with secret special skills taking on the imperial remnants as if they were still a rebel alliance and not a republic? This idea rocks. In execution, it's mixed. While meeting the wraiths is really fun, I found some of their interactions grating (calling the Gamorean piggy?, effectively instalove between our main wraith and his crush?). Furthermore, while the plot setup was great, the idea of hunting down imperials from the inside dragged on for about a hundred pages too long. I want to continue with this series, but I'm not sure I will right away.

This book has it all. The introduction of new characters, all with some kind of flaw, which makes them relatable. They‘re not these absolutely perfect beings, but have something to make them absolutely believable and loveable.

The story as such is great, the Wraiths are finding themselves, become a real unit and friends, some even lovers. We are winning friends and losing some, that makes for a really good story and damn, my internal fuel lines are leaking, or something like that. Go on, read the book ;)

Really struggled to pick this back up after traveling.

This was a rough read and I thought about dnfing or pausing to read something else more than once. What could have been an interesting story fell kind of flat here. None of the characters are that memorable or likeable. Up to the point where I found myself not caring about any of them whenever one of them was in danger. I liked the first four books in the series because the characters where likeable but this part just wasn't it...

In a similar vain to rogue squadron, this book is very important in setting up some new characters, whilst it also builds on some existing ones. My favourite character arc in this book is actually that of Admiral Ackbar. Highly recommended.
