There's a lot going on here. Almost too much. And while I imagine that everyone's supposed to grow and move on, etc, in any book, it seemed to me as though there might have been too much going on here. Too much growth? It was only okay, though I think I'm in the minority here - as of the time I finished, there were still 60+ holds on the hardcover edition in my system alone; this means everyone else loved it, or the people who hated it weren't being vocal enough.

This book ruined [b:Good in Bed|14748|Good in Bed (Cannie Shapiro, #1)|Jennifer Weiner|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1327936464l/14748._SY75_.jpg|2796838] for me. I was so excited that there was a sequel because I really enjoyed GIB and Cannie's character, but this one took away all the love I had for Cannie. She goes from a young and independent woman building her confidence to an overbearing mom who is scared of everything. While reading it, I kept finding myself just waiting for the end so that I didn't have to deal with their irritating narrative anymore. I mean, would it have killed Cannie to just be honest with her daughter??? It would have fixed so many problems.
Also, the ending??????? SO UNNECESSARY! I do not see how it contributed to the storyline or to Cannie's character at all (I guess I see the cyclical thing where Cannie is a single mom yet again), but it felt so out of the blue and did so little for me. I would've been so much happier with a good old happy ending.

My mother's library book for during COVID. I am pretty sure I read the first one but who really knows anymore.
Not bad. Maybe 3.5 stars. I'm sure I did read the first one at some point. A little heavy handed on the 'I'm fat so no one can love me' bit, but I may be super sensitive to that.

As always, I enjoyed this one from Jennifer Weiner. It is a sequel to Good in Bed and features Cannie and her daughter Joy narrating the months leading up to Joy's bat mitzvah (they alternate chapters between them). There is some really great mother daughter insight here.
Once again, this author has created a story with unlikable characters paired with a disastrous ending in what can only be an attempt to make the reader feel sorry for them and like them more. I did not like Cannie in Good in Bed but at least she had a personality in that one. In this book, she is obsessive again but this time it is over her daughter instead of over the man that got away. She lost her spunk and seemed to have aged 50 years instead of the 12 or 13 that really passed by in the book. Then the daughter is a complete and total spoiled brat that Cannie keeps giving into. In one scene Joy runs away to the other side of the country and then Cannie buys her the dress she wants for her bat-mitzvah but tells her it is not a reward, seriously? It wasn't that major but it's the tiny details that make a book and it is the tiny things about the characters that drive me crazy and make me want to scream at them while reading.
Honestly, the only reason I finished it was because I had started it and I hate to leave books unfinished. This was one book though that I wished I had left unfinished. Like Good in Bed, Weiner throws in a tragic and in this case completely unnecessary plot twist. In Good in Bed, the push and the premature birth actually helped to complete the story. What Weiner did in this one was just unnecessary, yes I am using that word again but I can't think of a better way to describe it. There was just absolutely no reason for her to throw that in there. The only reason I did not give this book one star was that it wasn't completely horrible to read. I can't even imagine that die-hard chick lit fans would completely enjoy this book.

I don't want to ruin this book for those that are currently reading it, or those that want to read it, but I was disappointed with what happened to one of the supporting characters. I didn't think it was crucial to the plot.
This woman proves once again what a great author she is. This time she wrote a book about a woman who writes books! Cannie, the main character, is inspiring and doesn't let anyone stand in her way. She stays true to herself no matter what other people think. She rises above her painful past to lead a good life with a relatively happy family, minus her hormonal thirteen year old daughter. The book is full of unexpected twists and turns, with one so sudden and horrible that I almost just wanted to take it back and stop reading the book during the happier parts. The ending is bittersweet, yet hopeful. Definitely a good read, especially if you are already a fan of the author. This book will not disappoint!
