I love the concept and the atmosphere I just wish the story itself had a little more umph to it. I unfortunately saw the twist coming from a mile away it was just a matter of fitting everything else into place. Still enjoyable! I love horror

Ahhhh yesssss. Another great, eerie novel by Katie Alender.
Pleasantly surprised that there were actually NO ghosts in this one. Nevertheless, this novel was a creepy page-turner, best enjoyed reading in the dark, as are all of Katie's books.
This book could have gone on forever and I wouldn't have minded. The build-up, the gradual assortment of clues, the setting... All of it made my skin crawl!
Now a few random thoughts and spoilers:
To think I liked Laura in the beginning! The time in the beginning when they hugged!! Katie, you sly fox! What a villain, what a villain.
When Margot found the surveillance footage! I was GAGGING
The TEA. I knew that tea was sus (but I didn't know HOW sus)
Let's be honest, Barrett was right. His mom IS a witch. A witch with a pharmaceutical degree.

Genuinely, I do not recommend this book, it has a great story but could have been executed much better and leaves you wishing for more.
The cover (of the alternate edition with the spoon, not the [haunted] house) instantly drew me in. The creepy thriller / catatonic daughter plot desperately made me give this book a go and made me question "Is Margo or is Agatha crazy?" I loved Margo because she was such a well-rounded character.
Even though the romantic subplot was unnecessary and didn't add anything to the story, I love forbidden romance. Because nothing useful came out of the romance, I was wondering what Barrett was even doing in the story in the first place. He didn't seem to have any substantial role in the book because he's barely even in the book. I felt the novel was more about Laura and Agatha. The pacing was good at the beginning, but towards the middle it went way off when the romantic subplot was introduced. I just wish at the end it was explained in (any) detail how Agatha began talking again. I felt like that was rushed, and most of the middle was just filler. Overall a really good book that kept me on the edge of my seat due to the constant suspense.
