I've amassed a modest library of these coffee table type books on design, color, font, etc. I think of them as reference volumes. I usually flip through them once, and then dust starts to collect before the cover gets cracked again. Let's face it. That's the definition of coffee table book.

New Vintage Type has been living on my coffee table for about six weeks, but a coffee table book it is decidedly not. I look at it during commercial breaks, while I'm waiting for the Thai food delivery, and sometimes in the morning before I leave for work—even when I'm late, which is every day. It is pretty but also readable. A one-of-a-kind font reference volume.

This book looks at the current design trends that relate to vintage styles. Some of the examples shown include photos of reference designs, but not all of them. Would have been more helpful if the styles featured more example work from history.
