I’m on the record as saying that Game of Thrones is basically Wars of the Roses fanfiction with dragons, but until I listened to this book I didn’t realize exactly how accurate that comparison was…

Okay technically i started the book, then saw the movie. I still enjoyed quite a bit :
adventurous challenging dark emotional funny hopeful informative mysterious sad medium-paced

I read this for the first time when I was a teenager and I remember being more obsessed with it that time around. I’ve also watched the show a lot and felt like I was comparing to that a lot this time.
Still really enjoyed. I like it being history from the women’s perspective

When I start a new book, I always give it 60 pages before I call it. With this book I stopped reading at exactly 60 pages. The story is interesting enough if you don't care about the complexity (or lack thereof) of the authors writing. I felt like I was reading a paper one of my 5th grade students had written. My advice, skip this book and find something with a little more depth.

I was inspired to read this book after seeing some of the TV show. I can't say I like one more than the other, but I certainly like some characters more from the book, especially Margaret Beaufort. The story was quite interesting and it was a good pace, not super exciting but page turning. The character of Elizabeth Woodville was well written but I am very interested in the Red Queen next, as I was really intrigued by Margaret. The ending was a surprise, not what happened, but that it stopped dead ready for the next book. Overall, a good read, nothing incredible, but very entertaining.

Philippa Gregory manages to tell the story of Elizabeth Woodville and her ascent to the throne in a way infused with factual information yet still imaginative. It is a great way to learn more about this time period while not being bombarded with facts and statistics.

Holy fast endings, Batman.

So this book was just okay. It was basically war then a little peace, war then a little peace, war then a little peace, etc. Also there were so many people with the same names that it was getting quite ridiculous. I counted at least four Richards two of which are brothers. And too many Margarets. I guess that's not the author's fault though. It makes me kind of glad people come up with more interesting names for their kids these days. I did somewhat like the end. I was able to relate to the love she had for her boys. Although it's kind of disturbing how the girls were more than a far 2nd to the boys. I found the Melusina/water goddess/witch stuff interesting. I especially enjoyed the tone of the telling to the Melusina story. I'm torn as to whether or not to read the next book in the series or Gregory's other series.

Historical fiction, especially the ones involving royal families is my favorite genre, but this book made me want to take a break from it. It's more or less a historical account and makes something potentially interesting sound very boring. Would not read the rest of the series.
