I hate to set books aside unfinished, but I am simply finding this one too boring to continue. I only have so much time to read for pleasure, and I don't want to waste that time. While I find the history interesting, I found Elizabeth Woodville to be flat and rather whiny at times. This is the first work by Philippa Gregory that I have read, and I'm thinking I made a poor choice.

I loved the Tudor series, but this book was flat writing and felt like a list of battles, marriages, births and deaths.
slow-paced

Elején nagyon tetszett, utána nagyon nehezen haladtam vele. Miután utánanéztem a történelemhűségének újra nagyon tetszett.

I watched the show for the White Queen ages ago when it originally aired and I was totally into it because I love any sort of trashy drama that's presented in a historical wrapper. I'm willing to admit that I really enjoyed it. I'm also willing to admit I didn't like the book as much as the show.

I don't know what it is. I think everyone, in general, is several times less likeable in the book. A part of that is likely due to it being told from Elizabeth Woodville's perspective, and she seems to hate almost everyone. That doesn't excuse why she, herself, is also infinitely less likeable than she is in the show. I've read three other books in the Cousins' War and Elizabeth is definitely my least favourite voice out of them to follow.

The plot was good and enjoyable for the most part, though it kind of starting fizzling out in the later half of the novel,
particularly after King Edward died, and Elizabeth and her kids went into sanctuary. There was just a whole lot of Elizabeth sitting around as things happened outside not directly involving her.

This wasn't the best Philippa Gregory and it's far from my favourite. It probably would have been better if it didn't fizzle out in the latter half. Overall, entertaining for what it was and it was interesting to see the novelized version of the show.

What it's about: Set during the War of the Roses, it is about Elizabeth Woodville the queen consort of Edward IV.

Why I read it: I just finished watching the mini series and wanted to know more. I think the mini series really did the book and story justice.

The pacing was well done and it’s clear to see how this book started the series

I think I need to take a break from Philippa Gregory because I have read a lot of this series back to back and I think you can really tell that she came into her own with writing them. The White Queen and Red Queen are good, but I much more enjoyed the Kingmaker’s Daughter and the Lady of the Rivers where it felt like the women had far more personality than in the first two. This was good, and I loved the Perkin Warbeck take, as well as her stuff about a curse on the Tudors but I wanted more Magic TM like in Jacquetta’s book.

At times I had a difficult time keeping up with who was at war, feuds, family connections.
Good read - fast paced, lots of conflict and a timeless love story.
