Lyla Eden is enjoying a rare day off when a violent attack in the wilderness leads to the arrival of Vance Sutter in town…and the kind of romance Lyla assumed wasn’t in her cards.
So many aspects of this book were honestly unhinged, but I had a really fun time reading it! I enjoyed Lyla, and her relationship with Vance was really sweet if a bit predictable. His nickname for her was also my favorite of this series so far.
I also really enjoyed the way the suspense/crime elements of this one took the lead (particularly after they took a backseat in the last couple books), which made this a bit of a change of pace!
And since I know you’re waiting for this, my updated current series rating: JUNIPER HILL > THE EDENS: A LEGACY (short story) > JASPER VALE > CRIMSON RIVER > INDIGO RIDGE > CHRISTMAS IN QUINCY (novella) > GARNET FLATS.
CW: Violence/injury; murder/death/child death; gun violence/police shooting; alcoholism/drug abuse
Graphic: Alcoholism, Child death, Injury/Injury detail, Physical abuse, Violence, Death, Domestic abuse, Addiction, Drug abuse, and Murder

I love the wholesomeness of the Eden family and how they all rally around each other. These are such fun, fast paced, suspenseful and romantic stories.

Anywho this was rocky for me. It was very similar to Indigo Ridge at certain times. I was not impressed with the insta-love and then good lord Vance like if keep it in your pants was a person🤣🤣
If I could rate the book in sections it would honestly be
Beginning - 4.5
Middle - 2-3
End - mmmmm 4
It’s intriguing, it’s mysterious, it’s questionable, it makes you really wonder like could I accept this as what happened. But I am happy for the ending and obviously gotta finish with Mateo’s story because who doesn’t love an underdog story, idk baby sibling = underdog in my head!
Graphic: Violence
Moderate: Child death

🌶️🌶️.5/5
From the outside, my life was rock solid. So why couldn’t I shake this unease? This feeling that I was missing something…I was off-kilter and didn’t know how to find steady.
We were two sides to the same coin. Two people trying to find their way back to centre.

“You don’t have to say anything. You’re listening.”
