Loved it, a lot happens at the last 80 Pages.

A fun Little Mermaid retelling with a Pirates of the Caribbean twist. This YA romantsy starts out as a fairly straightforward retelling of the fairy tale before veering into some new territory with pirates, ancient gods, curses, and magic. The romance is decent, with the characters forming a real bond, and there's a surprisingly strong found family theme as well as one of your weaknesses being your greatest strengths. I won't say it's Shakespeare, but for a debut novel it was solid, though there were some minor consistency issues (referring to a character as naked only to later say she's wearing a top, calling an area a forest and then later a jungle) that a better editor should have caught. But overall, it delivered the fun, enjoyable characters, and romance I wanted, and I liked the time I spent with it.

Just noticed I started reading at the end of May! WHAT?!

I tried.
I tried SO HARD.
It’s not me, it’s the book.
If you know me, I love The Little Mermaid and I do not mind a retelling. But this was giving retelling and then just boring. It’s all description and no substance or plot from where I am. The pace was so slow that I couldn’t keep myself interested enough. It was a great book to read before bed because I’d knock out after a single paragraph. Maybe if I was able to listen to the audiobook it’d be different but I’m not paying again.
