The first 30 pages had me hooked and very excited. Then I started to feel like I was reading the script for the little mermaid and I stopped wanting to pick up the book. Maybe it digresses from the movie later on, but for now, I'm on to other books.

4.5 ⭐️
Was this book perfect? No. And was it a bit cliché? Yes but I loved it nonetheless. I’ve followed Kelsey on all of her platforms for years so was incredibly excited for this debut novel and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I ADORED the found family trope in this book so much and I also loved the amount of representation this book has.
I must say I didn’t enjoy the romance aspect as much as I thought it would which is why I took points in the rating but did feel a tug when the betrayal trope hit towards the end and now they don’t like each other, that serves so hard going into the second book… anyways idk what that says about me but still.
OH and the last 20% of the book had my jaw dropping at every turn so I can’t wait for the second book!

Voice of the Ocean was an interesting read but one I wasn't fully sold on.
To start, I thought it was a standalone novel so discovering this is going to be a series was a slight disappointment.
I thought the premise of The Little Mermaid meets Pirates of the Carribean was interesting, I actually quite liked the way the blending of the two was done. Though I would have liked to see a bit more of the Pirate aspect than we actually got.
Celeste, our FMC, was..fine. She's very age appropriate in terms of personality for the book. Though just how often she was weeping did begin to grate. I am all for a FMC being in touch with her emotions, but it just became annoying after a time, espesially as everytime she cried, it was followed with a self depricating rant.
The romance was fairly boring. Mostly because Celeste seemed to backslide on caring for Raiden for a while for no super clear reason. It was jarring how swiftly she went from saving him, to hating him, to caring again. It just made her seem so whishy washy and lacking clear direction in basically any regard. And you could maybe pass this of as it being her age at play, but it didn't feel that way at all.
Overall it was an okay read, but left a lot to be desired.

Although The Little Mermaid isn’t my favorite of the Disney princess films, I truly enjoyed this book. I loved the twist the author had to a well known story. My favorite part of the book was the characters. I fell in love with so many of them, but especially Celeste and Raiden. However I will warn you, the books ends on a complete cliffhanger. Nevertheless, the book is well written (especially for a first time author) and is a complete recommendation from me.

This was honestly such a nice read. Perfectly paced for me, relatable characters, awesome world building! I do feel conflicted about it being a series, which I did not know until the ending of the book. I love I get to spend more time with these characters in this world, I hate I don't know how it's going to continue yet! Excited for the next installment!

I did love the story. Only her being 17 and the love interest. It gave me the creeps. Even sirens gets twice the age of a human. Which makes her even more a child. The story could have been the same with her being 21. Also not a standalone! That surprised me.
