Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Voice of the Ocean is a fresh reimagining of the classic The Little Mermaid tale—and a strong debut overall!

Celeste makes for a compelling narrator and a solid female lead, even if her naivety shows at times. But at 17, who hasn't made questionable choices for love—human or siren? The supporting cast adds depth to the story, and the twists toward the end were genuinely surprising.

That said, I did find the pacing a bit slow at the beginning, and personally, I think the story might have been stronger as a standalone rather than part of a series.

I loved this book! I am a Youtube fan and freaking loved this story. My only thing that took it down was sometimes I felt that the switching between names and species was confusing, I thought it was a typo. I loved the story and the ending! Safe to say I am hooked. (Get it sea joke)

DID NOT FINISH: 9%

Reads like it was written by a child. A child who's a really big fan of Disney's The Little Mermaid but thinks it's not "grown-up" enough. Full of dumb contradictions (like the palace guard not recognising the princess who is shortly afterward described as having unique, white hair that everyone would make her identity obvious to anyone) and details that make me question whether any part of the setting was thought through at all.

Narrated by seventeen year old Celeste, Impicciche’s fantasy draws inspiration from Hans Christian Andersen’s Little Mermaid.

As many point out, the beginning is a drag and picks up around 35%. The writing was just BAD. I’m disappointed in the editors because what were y’all doing? So much repetition and awkward writing along with weird pacing.

The love interest is kinda lame and their relationship felt rushed.
He also just sucks. The betrayal was like unforgivable.

Just a bummer because the plot could’ve been fun.
