So repetitive makes sense since it’s in the time loop but it just didn’t make the book enjoyable no world building only a couple main characters not a lot of fun interactions boring. The realistic sorta magic is interesting though.
It took me around 25 hours to read the book.
Wasn't bored for a second of it.
One of the best books I've read. It's definitely going into my favourite bookshelf.

I read as an epub scraped from the FictionPress posting, which is https://m.fictionpress.com/s/2961893/1/Mother-of-Learning (ID 2961893). 823,563 words. This was a re-read; I read it for the first time ages ago.
I like this book a lot! (Partially shaded by nostalgia.) The worldbuilding is really incredible. The progression is consistent and satisfying. Some of the characters are delightful to read about and the rest are good enough.
Loses points because it is. So. Goddamn. Long. Is it my own problem that I decided to read this in a fugue state over one weekend? Yes, absolutely. But nonetheless there are a LOT of moments which could be more concise and some handful which probably aren't necessary at all. Zorian has a tendency to go on unnecessary tangents and explain things in excruciating detail.
Also loses points because Zorian is a little brat who doesn't quite get the concept of "being nice and friendly to people" - at the beginning quite frequently, and still on occasion even after years in the time loop.
But sometimes he's not! The portions where he connects with Kirielle, for example, are incredibly heartwarming. I liked the friendships with Taiven and Kael and Damien a lot as well.

I appreciate the logical approach to writing about magic and how it works and is theorized in a fantasy world but the main character is just too much of a little whiny shithead. he’s like a bad visual novel protagonist whose entire personality is being mildly irritated by everything. the whole story is from his perspective, so it’s a constant inner monologue of him being bored or annoyed by totally mundane things like basic social interactions or the weather. if I read two thousand plus pages of this I would turn into a school shooter shooter (someone who gathers a lot of incels in one place and shoots them with a gun I got at Wal-Mart) out of self-defense.
