This is a nice sweet and short story that isn't quite a real story. The problem is the writing and characterizations - there are no clear motivations and hardly any character definitions, neither of which can be excused by the short form of the book. It's not secondary enough to fully rely on the original for the characterizations, but it's not developed enough to stand on its own feet either. The end result is something half-baked and amorphous.

This is my first exposure to the author and the preface makes it clear that this book was published very quickly to fit a charitable purpose, which might explain the half-baked result. I might give this author another chance, but I am a bit wary after this.

Last night, around 2am, I woke up from the most chilling nightmare. The kind that makes you immediately sit up and look around the room for the person trying to kill you (it was @EdwardNortonOfficial in case you were wondering). I couldn’t go back to sleep without seeing his face, so I took a minute to find a quick read.

I have been a bit leery for the pandemic books, but with the Pride and Prejudice as the theme, and only around 100 pages, I decided to give this a ‘I need something to distract me’ go.

We meet Darcy and Elizabeth after he has already wounded her pride, and after she has refused him. If you know the story of Pride and Prejudice then, in my opinion, this is the perfect place to kick off a quick read. We already know he loves her, and we get to watch —er read— her fall in love with him.

You could not have found two more fitting jobs to compliment Jane Austen’s original characters; Elizabeth as a romance writer, Darcy owning a publishing business. I feel like if we were to bring Jane Austen back today she would give her approval. What better way to show the improvement of her mind than by extensive writing.

If you love Pride and Prejudice as much as I do, pick this up for a quick read. I had it done, front to back, in about an hour. Amazon has listed one hour and forty-one minutes as the typical time to read.

(In case you were wondering, this book contains some language)

You can't be binge-reading modern Jane Austen retellings during quarantine and not read a book about being quarantined with Mr. Darcy, you just can't. That and the fact I'm plowing my way through the P&P variations available on Kindle Unlimited are pretty much why I read this book despite the cover art and relatively ordinary book summary.

I don't really know what to say other than what you see is what you get with this one. It's like those rom-coms where you watch the trailer and have basically seen the whole movie. It's cute in the moment, I guess, but fairly predictable. There's nothing particularly original or exciting about it. I know all Jane Austen retellings are essentially published fanfiction (I mean, people call it JAFF for crying out loud), but this really read like fanfiction that should've remained somewhere out on an internet forum or fanfic site rather than the Amazon site even if it is free. Actually, I just noticed there's a paperback?! A tree should not have had to die for this. Anyway, even if the premise weren't so topical, the writing ensures it won't be anything memorable.

The writing is pretty basic, and the story is kind of boring. Despite being trapped in a house together, there's no real conflict or tension between Darcy and Elizabeth. Darcy is tall, dark and awkward (yay!), but we also have to hear about how random things like Lizzy biting her lips turns him on (
