I really like Kelly Sue DeConnick but so far I have really disliked her Captain Marvel. Here, I think the story is better than the last volume. I enjoyed Carol and Monica's banter but other than that, the plot was full of holes and the art by Filipe Andrade was insanely bad. Some of the worst linework I've ever seen. This book and series has been a disappointment. Overall, terrible art and subpar plot make this pretty terrible.
Damn it. After reading the first volume and not being that impressed I picked this up just because but actually liked it a whole lot more. The initial story is fun and stand alone but easy to appreciate.
The second story is more engaging and there's a lot of interplay with Carol's support network. I liked the human aspect of this and her eternal grumpiness. I know Filipe Andrade's artwork is not to everyone's taste but I enjoyed the highly stylised and dynamic style and it fit nicely with the action.
There's an intriguing background story which is resolved in the next volume. Except the library doesn't have the next volume. Hence the damn it.
So yeah, I'm feeling the praise this book (and DeConnick) recieved. If only I could read more.

Beautiful artwork, creative and witty dialogue, and a very well defined and interesting character.
I have so many Captain Marvel feelings and most of them are yes, good. I wish the art was better towards the latter half of the book (I guess I just don't "get" that style), but God give me all the lady friendships and girls being excited about a female superhero and struggling with mortality and yes, good more please.
Again, I am a bit confused since I do not have a strong knowledge of Captain Marvel's background. Plus, the artwork in the second half is terrible.
Entertaining. There's robot punching and people from the past, and a large "things might not be going so well for Carol" plotline. Curious to see how this storyline finishes out in the next volume.
I am totally in love with Carol Danvers. She is brave without being stupid, tough without being hard, and most of all, she is a well-written female character.
The cover artwork for this volume is amazing, but alas, I'm not entirely sold on the overall artwork throughout the story. At times, I like the stylized drawings, but at other times the artwork seems distorted.
Sign me up for the Carol Corps, I am hooked.

Good story, liked the art for the first 2 issues on this volume. However, the art for the remaining 4 was an abrupt and unwelcome change and not to my liking at all. It took me out of the story.
I love this series. My one problem with this book is the change in artists from issues 9-12. I really like the Dexter Soy's art for Captain Marvel. It's "dirtier" - more earthy and realistic. Whereas I find Filipe Andrade's style to be too... wiggly and swirly. The art goes from feeling very hands-on and badass to looking like we should be seeing Victorian ladies with parasols on the streets of London. Except that we're watching Carol fight and deal with health problems. It's not that I dislike the art style; it just doesn't work with this particular series.
Art aside, I adore DeConnick and Sebela's writing. The characters and their interactions are fun and keep my attention. I have no complaints.
Overall, the new art is something I'm willing to put up with to have Captain Marvel, because really, Carol's what it's all about. And she's done well.
