I liked this! The plot was interesting and I am intrigued, but there was something about the writing that didn’t hold my attention very well. That could be a me problem lol.

I added this to my favorites shelf when I was just a few chapters in, which I think was a reflection of me loving the prose.

I am slow to blame the feeling of “disconnect” for my dislike because that’s exactly how I would feel if I were in their shoes—absolutely disconnected from the gods and the war until it’s in their faces.

It started out so well, the premise was fascinating, and then suddenly it was all romance, and I was having a less great time.

ELE SÓ TINHA 1 MINUTO E 13 SEGUNDOS DE VIDA E MESMO ASSIM SE ARRASTOU PARA TENTAR CHEGAR ATÉ ELA!!!!!!

O final desse livro me deixou em completo surto!!!

This book was not necessarily bad. The writing was absolutely beautiful! The premise was amazing! This could have been easily one of the best books out there. But the execution...

The characters fell as flat as a sheet of paper. They were pale, empty, and lacked motivation. Lacked anything, actually. There was no actual arc, no emotional arc, no plot, NOTHING!!!

All that happened was a bunch of strung together scenes, with a sequence of meaningless tragedies that the characters do not address, and the letters.

That's it.

*spoilers ahead*

I honestly though that the main conflict would present itself halfway (as do most conflict), it being Roman joining her and the fact that she was falling for him but after the death of her mother and her brother leaving, she just can't let anyone in.
Anyone but carver.
Think about the possibility. It would have been a painful book about learning to slowly love...

Instead, it was a half-baked enemies to lovers, with characters whose emotional arc is resolved in LETTERS in a few pages after the conflict presents itself, resolving it immediately.

The book was painfully slow and boring. The scenes lacked...well, stakes. There were no stakes.

I predicted the plot twist because it was the only direction the story could go.

We never address Roman's ex-fiance being a war criminal!!! The impact of losing her mother and how it would affect Iris was barely mentioned. And so many other plot points that were just there and NEVER addressed again.

This read like a debut novel (I am almost certain it isn't). It lacked the depth an experienced author has. Absolutely disappointed.
