A fun and enjoyable story with many twists and turns - but arguably one too many twists. It was actually quite hard to follow along by the very end, and remembering exactly what had happened and who did what was a slight challenge, but nevertheless experiencing the plot twists in the moment and reading along as Poirot does his thing is always a fun time.

The introduction of Monsieur Giraud of the Sûreté as a rival to Poirot was amusing, you almost know exactly what this fella looks like based on the storytelling and descriptions. Poiort being unphased, along with the wry smile he's wearing as he's watching Giraud scan for clues while the Frenchman basks in his confidence and arrogance, only adds to the satire.

This story also cements my opinion that Hastings is incompetent, and really is no match for Monsieur Poirot. How quickly he turns against his work in pursuit of women is flabbergasting, and the gap in chemistry and ability between these two is huge. Particularly compared to other duos such as Holmes and Watson.

Onto the next one... The Murder of Roger Ackroyd!

I was really feeling mysteries in this month, so I continued reading Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot series. Murder on the Links follows Poirot and his friend/assistant, Hastings, as they solve the murder of a man who had, in the days before his murder, written to Poirot to request his assistance. This particular story follows a standard Poirot formula (though, there’s always some twist at the end), which is the exact type of familiar, easy read I was looking for, but I found Hastings’ revolving door of crushes on other characters annoying.

Ok, this was waaaay better than the previous book in Poirot's saga.
Still I think there were too many twists in who the culprit was; imo the moment when (spoiler) goes to the court to declare for the surprise of everyone was the perfect moment for the ending... but actually she wasn't the culprit either! (Even for her own amazement lol)
And so, after a persecution scene of the true murderer, finally the detective explains it all.

Overall I think the plot was still nice, but can't wait for reading all of Poirot stories ⛄
