An incredible and unique and morally grey concept!!! Excellent commentary on the patriarchy, oppressive systems, ablism, and so much more!

This book full of violence, death and the overarching theme of sexual trafficking/forced pregnancy literally ends with the Super Mario theme. How tone deaf is that?

Too daunting and depressive, while none of the characters give me a reason to root for them. I can sympathise with their struggles, but that doesn't mean that I'm on their side, and by the end nothing is really solved, anyway. Either the systm persists and will continue to harbour misery, or it collapses and the lineage of British 'eaters dies out (good riddance, in that case).

Don't get me wrong, the premise is really interesting, but there isn't really any depth to get invested in.

A super interesting take on vampires that is written from the point of view on inconsequential characters. It asks the readers to consider what can happen when certain people control information and act on it. Themes of addiction, temptation, motherhood, ableism, queer identities, and neurodivergence.

i got into this expecting to read a story about a mother who moved mountains for her child. i kinda got that, but i also got way too many pages of men trying to oppress women/mothers by using their children against them & ugh. i wish i'd read some cws first bc while it wasn't actually triggering for me i found all these sect-/cult-like tendencies to be vERY uncomfortable and unsettling.
the whole "love doesn't have rules or a cost & also isn't necessarily good all the time" was a cool touch tho.
