I really enjoyed all the very specific architectural weirdness. I agree that architecture is frightening. I felt like I had to restart it when I finished which seems like the goal of any mystery. I did have a dream after falling asleep reading this, that the killer was this tiny evil witch and they were all actually aliens it was crazy. So finishing the book was bound to feel a little anticlimactic but i was still surprised!

The characters are all rather one dimensional, stereotypical archetypes, and the book is mainly held up by the plot. The major twist was actually kind of lost on me, due to the large number of characters (also it clearly works better in Japanese, where Morisu is a real name as well as the Japanese pronunciation of the name Morris - the translator had a difficult task). I'm not familiar enough with the stylings of golden age mystery fiction, so I don't feel confident enough to say whether this was a good homage to the genre.
