At the beginning of this book I was worried it just wasn't going to be for me. It is based around a tattoo shop being on a reality show, which I am not a fan of. Once I got to know more about Joel Anderson, I could not resist his charm. Even when he was not being his charming self, I still loved him. Annika was a decent character. She came across very cold and rigid at first but became more likeable once she started letting Joel in.

After meeting Staci Hart in Denver, September 2016, I knew I had to jump in to her books. I am so happy I was able to read this book before it was released! I had just finished reading a book that was so intense, and full of every feel imaginable that I was happy to be able to avoid a reading slump with this gem of a story. (Yes, I needed tissues during this read too but it was so amazing never the less!)

After I found the synopsis for Tonic, and knew that was the book by Staci, I needed to start with! I currently have 6 tattoos on my body and am planning on getting more. Once I found out that the book was about a tattoo shop owned by a pair of brothers, I was sucked in. Adding a reality TV show to the story line and I couldn’t put the book down.

Annika, a strong, stubborn business woman was a fantastic and hilarious lead. Then add, “Hairy”, aka Joel, a swoon worthy male lead, and you have a mix for a romance story that is a perfect example of one that is passionate, smoking hot, with a splash of angst.

Now, that plot twist!!! WHAT THE HECK STACI? I definitely was not expecting it but absolutely loved every second!

ICE QUEEN + HAIRY = ONE HELL OF A STORY!

After learning that Joel was a background character in Last Call by Staci, I am now off to read that story as well!

Grateful to have received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Few of My Favorite Quotes
“I wondered if she had a single mark on her perfect skin and imagined taking my needle to it, making a mark I could leave there forever.”

“I then decided two things. One: My new mission in life was to make her laugh. Two: I’d crack her open if it was the last thing I did.”

“He’s crass and uncouth and… hulking. He’s medieval. Put a mace in his hand and point him to the Saxons.”

“I had requirements, such as: clean cut, ambitious, professional, refined.
He was a fantasy, not a real prospect.”

Now this is Romance!

Wow! I loved the story and how unique it came to be. I love that the author placed to very real and deep characters in thus story where the attraction was so vivid. I loved that there was an age gap and the author chose older, more experienced characters for these intense roles. Now for the real question, where can I get my own Joel??

What an amazing read! I will definitely be reading more from Staci Hart.

One of my favorite reads by Staci. There’s no lack of talent in creating this gem. Joel and Annika’s romance is one of my first reads. It’s pure, unadulterated, chaos and passion. Staci has a way of making you feel every emotion so fully. Great read!

Tonic is Staci Hart's latest standalone. It's a spin-off of her Bad Habits series. A few characters interconnect, but it won't hurt to read it by itself.

Annika Belusov is a first generation Russian-American. She's married to her job and would do anything for her family. She's goal-oriented and has no time for relationships. Once she meets Joel Anderson, that all changes

Joel is the owner of the Tonic tattoo shop in New York City. He's been in the business for nearly two decades. He was burned by his ex-wife and has locked his heart from relationships. After he meets Annika, he'll do whatever it takes to get and keep her in his life.

Tonic kind of fell flat for me. This is the fifth book of Staci Hart's that I've read and it just didn't hit me like the others. I didn't find much in the way of romantic comedy as I did as an angst-filled romance. As a tattoo collector, I was over the moon to learn about Joel's story. I love the tattoo shop scene and lifestyle. As someone who knows many shop owners, it's very uncommon for an artist to call their tattoo machine a "gun." Some artists even find it derogatory. Call me a snob, but that bothered me.

I'm not discounting Staci's writing and I'm probably the unpopular reviewer of the bunch since it's not super favorable. It just wasn't a hit for me. I'm sure I'll keep reading Staci's work because she does keep it fresh and fun, but Tonic just didn't do it for me.

3.5 stars. I feel like I'm in the minority, I didn't love this book. it was slow and not very believable. I didn't hate it but it just wasn't a favorite.

I’m a huge Staci Hart fan. I’ve always loved the books I’ve read from her. However, this one fell a little short for me.

While the overall storyline was enjoyable, the characters just didn’t have the development I was aching to read.

While the steamy scenes made up for some of the parts I was wanting, I also think the relationship progressed a little awkwardly for me. Like how did they get from point A of their relationship to point B? When exactly did they fall in love?

Something just lacked for me in this book. Overall was entertaining.
