I loved this book! It was a little hard to follow in the beginning - trying to figure out who was talking/thinking; there is a weird use of pronouns (1st versus 3rd person) throughout the book. The story line was fun, a bit of a mystery, and a it had a good ending. Very spicy - written well. Kind of like a very grown up Twilight, except just vampires and werewolves (almost no humans). The romance part of the story builds and is primary to all the subplots. The characters have good arcs. Overall, a fun, spicy, paranormal romance.

Misery, a vampire, is the bride to Lowe, a werewolf. The species are not familiar with each other in the slightest - their marriage is arranged as an effort to end war and create an alliance. Sounds serious? Maybe - but this book is full of jokes. The setting is strange - it is set in our modern world in almost every way (dating apps, technology, geography) with just the addition of there being werewolves and vampires that exist openly and in separate territories from humans. It prevents the need for much of any world building but also is harder to wrap your head around.

Misery manages to often be unlikeable while also being someone I admire to be more like. She does not care what others think of her, like at all. She’s also extremely content with herself. We do not get much from Lowe’s perspective except a quick blurb at the beginning of each chapter - I loved having just a glimpse. The best character in this story is Ana (and Sparkles) - and the source of much of the comedy.

Be warned, there is some explicit spice. Reading this book literally felt like a crime (or a sin at the very least). Let’s just say I was KNOT expecting a great deal of it, especially the physical acts between Misery and Lowe, and their differences.

There is some mystery to this story, and I will say the ending was not one I even kind of predicted.

3.0 STARS

Overall, this might have not been the best first choice to introduce me to the full on romance/chick-lit genre (in terms that the romance is the main plot, and not like the other romantasy books I've read in which the romance is a bit more of a B plot.)

That's not saying the book is bad, I can definitely see why a lot of people love this book! There was just a lot of spice that I was not initially expecting, which isn't the books fault by any means! It just meant I had to skip a couple of pages, haha! But, in terms of the good aspects of the book, Misery Lark (Darkness Dementia Raven Way) was a pretty entertaining character! She is sassy and gives no-fucks about most everything which is kind of refreshing to see from a character. She very much reminded me of a typical emo kid, which sounds bad, but I enjoyed a lot. I do wish that Lowe had a little more personality other than mysteriously aloof Alpha-Man, since I feel like we should've been able to know him a little more.

This read like a Wattpad fanfiction, but honestly, I'm okay with that!

Slow burn, enemies to lovers, paranormal. The cover gives it away, but she’s a vampyre and he’s a werewolf. There are conflicts between species and they get married *awww* to create an alliance.

My favorite things about Ali Hazelwood: characters with depth, growth, and sincere relationships; and vocabulary that makes me use the dictionary.

I love this book so much that I splurged on a signed exclusive edition for my collection.
