A beautiful book about what truly matters. Hard to put down. The characters will live on in my mind.

This book had great potential, but it was a bit all over the map. The through line of the narrative was disjointed in having a new character take over with each chapter. And then, it ended before the story was done - with 2 more years of war to go and who knows what to happen to the residents of 33 Place Brugmann.

Enjoyable WWIi story about a diverse group of tenants in a Brussels apartment building, each with their own voice. Decent character development and I Liked how each reacted / resisted / collaborated based on their backgrounds. Charlotte and Masha were the best and Dirk was a surprise in a good way. I liked how the characters were surprisingly pulled back together at the climax of the story. Would have preferred a little less philosophy references and a little more art.
