A different take on a WWII story. I liked the unique perspective but it was kind of slow on the uptake and not a ton happened

Reading some other people's reviews on this made me second guess myself, but I'm sticking to my guns and saying I truly enjoyed this book. I appreciate and resonate with a philosophical tone, so while some of it definitely went over my head and there were some symbolic and imaginative moments I didn't really get, I enjoyed most of the abstract portions. I also liked the multiple POV storytelling and thought the author did a good job of making them all unique which minimized any confusion.

I wished at times that the chapters included some sort of date/year information so I could orient myself because I wasn't always sure how much time had passed. Additionally, some of the "men are the root of all problems" rhetoric felt shoehorned and tired. My final critique...
I can appreciate an open-ended conclusion and some loose ends, but things were a little too open-ended and nebulous for me. I wanted to know what happened to Julian, to the rest of the Raphaels, to Charlotte & her baby. I wanted to hear more from Esther. What about Harry? I guess I'll never know.
