Only non fiction book I have ever liked

Still a powerful, moving memoir of an ordinary teen girl experiencing adolescence during a horrifying time. If you haven't read it since high school (like me), it's time to read it again! Read my full review:

Dieu merci je l’ai terminé ! J’ai eu énormément de mal avec Anne tant je la trouvais insupportable. Mais il était tout de même intéressant de découvrir ce classique, et la façon dont 8 personnes ont vécu en confinement pendant plus de 2 ans.

This evocative piece is truly eye-opening. The tragedy of the piece and the period, knowing the ends of these brilliant and beautiful people unjustly at the hands of a cruel regime is heartbreaking. I truly felt as if I was able to connect with Anne throughout the course of this reading, which is fitting as it is her diary, but it nonetheless felt incredibly personal. The ways she describes her many thoughts, her struggles with her individuality in such a suffocating environment and set of circumstances, her attachments to her past life, friends and other people and other such things were personal and reflective. She not only discusses such personal topics so dear to adolescents everywhere, but reflects in a wonderful prose and it truly is representative of her talent as a writer. It is truly devastating to think that one as talented as she was never able to fulfill her dreams. Whenever she spoke of the future, it hurt to remember how things ended, and how this is the experience of one of millions of people who met their ends at the hands of this wicked government.

Anne Frank’s diary was, indeed, an impactful read to me. Her charming musings on her quarrels and disdains, her crushes and her introspective discussions on her identity were all encapturing and I did feel a form of connection with some of her developmental plights. To see such an industrious and spirited soul be hurt so much is devastating, and I wholeheartedly recommend reading this book to understand the tragedies of the Holocaust. It is often difficult to understand the magnitude of events such as the Holocaust, and reading this diary, it helped me remember that these were individuals. Millions of people with stories, hopes, dreams, talents and the numerous other facets of diversity were killed, just as Anne did, and it is therefore our responsibility to come to understand these times and concepts and work our hardest to ensure that such events may never occur again.

A truly inspirational, but nonetheless tragic read.
