This was one of those books that I read through pretty fast clip but didn't really connect with and I know I'm in the minority for it. Even though the reading was quick, the pace of the story was slow and I didn't think the characters were anything special. Trollope had come highly recommended by a friend and I added the entire Barsetshire series to my TBR list, but I think I'm going to pull them off since I didn't enjoy this one so much.

relaxing
I just remembered Trollope, looking for something undemanding to read. I read so many of his books when the kids were babies, I ended up giving them all to the charity shop because I just wasn’t drawn to re-reading them and I wanted to reclaim the two foot of shelf space. Twenty years later, I do want to reread them, and I have very cleverly joined the library again and am ordering the Barsetshire chronicles one by one. This one is great, usual Trollope plot of individual man with ethical quandary. His trip to London and the little satires of Dickens and Carlisle are great. His decision that actually it is unethical to take the salary is satisfying and setting the charity then fall apart is realistic.

This was my first Trollope and I absolutely LOVED it.

I don't even like audiobooks really, but The Warden lends itself to being read out loud to the reader. The characterization was effortless. It is clear that Trollope understands human being.

I thought that I would be reading Book#1 only, and now the characters won't leave me.

As is true of most classics, Trollope also helps the reader think about responsibility, honesty, duty, family and makes you ponder right vs wrong.

I found a lot of myself in The Reverend Septimus Harding. It was such a good story and while I know it is the shortest in the serious, I feel it was a great introduction into the series and it was just enough for me to realize that I can't possibly stop the series with this novel.

Τι κι αν νόμιζα πως υπήρχε μια δόση ειρωνείας στην περιγραφή της συμπεριφοράς του επιτρόπου; Τι κι αν ευτυχώς ξεγελάςτηκα; Τι κι αν διαβαςα πάνω απ το μιςο σ ενα βραδυ;

Charles Dickens and Elizabeth Gaskell are among my favorite authors. This is the third Anthony Trollope book I have read and find I really enjoy his writing style, story telling, and moral clarity. Will definitely continue reading the complete Chronicles of Barsetshire series and Trollope may join my list of favorite authors.

This started very slow but when it picked up pace it was quite enjoyable. Not a lot happens and Trollope does like to go off on a tangent but he’s witty which helps. Poor Dickens was the subject of quite a lot of sarcasm here. Anyway, it was okay and I will try another of the Barchester Chronicles but it will need to be a bit better for me to continue.
