I really wanted to give this one four stars, I really did. I absolutely adore William Grayson III - he's probably my favorite Horseman (my sweetie pie honey bun) - and I devoured this 700+ page story in less than 24 hours, but this book was really just... not it. Emory was a very irritating character at times. Of course, I rooted for her when push came to shove, because she WAS the main character, but her personality was kind of horrible. I mean, all you really need to know is that she lied and sent her first love to prison because she wanted to take care of her DYING grandmother. LiKE EXCUSE ME??? Just let granny die, girl! You're sending an innocent man to prison (not technically innocent because he did beat the fuck out of her abusive brother), but she lied and said that Will hurt HER because she wanted money to take care of granny. How do you justify that???? And then she goes back and forth feeling sorry for herself and hating herself for LITERALLY ever. Like just accept the blame and move the FUCK on. The only good thing about the plot (TRULY) was Will. He can do no wrong in my eyes. His innocence as a teenager was so sweet, and the fact that he became a hardened grump after what Emory did to him was HOT. Every time his tattoos were mentioned I let out an audible moan. He is my sugar plum fairy baby girl!! Anyway - Penelope Douglas is an excellent writer in all the ways that matter, which is really what saved this book. She created an interesting universe with the Devil's Night series, but this book only gets three stars because Emory's personality ruined this one. I was also hoping for more smut, but I digress... I do plan on reading the last novella (I don't know when), but I'm hoping for a lot of spice and a lot of William Grayson (also more Winter and Damon). Thankful that I finally bit the bullet and read this book because William Grayson is now at the top of my book boyfriend list. Thank you, Penelope Douglas, for writing the perfect man, but you should've made his love interest less annoying!!!

SpoilerWow where do I even begin?

I honestly can’t decide if this one was my favourite or if Kill Switch was my favourite but right now I’m thinking it’s this one. My favourite horseman hands down is Will Grayson III. There’s just something about him and his jokes that just makes me love him so much. Also the tattoos…

Emory was definitely an amazing girl character. I liked that she wasn’t really scared of them and she actually used to like roast them and shit with no hesitation. Her and Will’s story from highschool was frustrating in a good way because it’s like anytime you thought they’d be together she’d go off on him and be like fuck you I don’t like you. I felt bad for Will but at the same time was like period sis.

Holy fuck the storyline of this book honestly I thought was a masterpiece. Sooooo entertaining. There were also so many twists that I didn’t expect. I liked how at the beginning of the book it didn’t have just like one unanswered thing going on but multiple. Like the first chapter is her waking up in Blackchurch with no explanation and I liked that because it made me want to keep reading to find out.

Alex and Aydin??? Did not expect that. When she told Rika her whole story about her friends boyfriend and the video call thing I didn’t actually think the guy would be in these books. I thought it was just like some background information about her and that’s it. But it made so much sense and I loved it. But tbh if I was her I would not have married him he’s so rude and then turned beg.

Overall, LOVE LOVE LOVE this series so much. Yes it was toxic. Yes it was problematic. Yes the men in this book are misogynistic. But would I still let them ruin my life? You bet your ass I would.

i loved so many pieces of this book! i loved how it was more than just will’s story like the other boys’ books. we got to see the whole family grow stronger and i love that they all share the same wedding anniversary and that they do conclave on devils night every year. I also love how Winter is a serious asset to their team like how she heard the gun before anyone saw it. i’m obsessed but i had to do 4 stars for the abrupt unfinished ending. it just seemed odd to introduce us to this new set of characters and set up a new conflict and not finish the story clean. I would have been much happier if the story had ended as they all arrived for conclave.

Also who was Athos?? you’re telling me there was a little girl living in the tunnels and they were just able to adopt her no questions asked? why does she have two different colored eyes?? why did the girl heir at the end want her?? who were her parents before?? she has potential to be a really strong female character with a cool backstory but we didn’t get any of it and i really want to know who she is and how she ended up alone!

this was much better than nightfall!! it had everything i love about the devils night series: spicy scenes, a mystery and crisis, the inner mind of a new tortured boy and the girl he would die for (totally a damon and banks repeat) a passing on of the carfax room key, and a much cleaner ending where we as readers can see how the story will continue and repeat rather than the unfinished and confusing ending we got from nightfall.

I also love that we got a minor backstory for Athos because not knowing where she came from felt unfinished to me.
