This was my first Elin Hilderbrand book and I have to say I was disappointed.
I found the pacing very slow, I couldn’t seem to connect with the characters and all of the historical events being talked about only seemed to be included as a way to jazz up the book since each event was only given a page to talk about it like ‘hey this is going on’ but not including it in the story too much.
Kirby was kind of involved in the woman drowning but not really - i just didn’t like the characters, I liked the setting of Nantucket in the summer, but it all just seemed very surface level.
Still look forward to reading more by her to see if I like anything else, this book just wasn’t for me.

Everything about this book made me intensely stressed. Every single decision every character made at every point was intensely stressful. You can tell at every point they’re making the wrong choice which I hate. Makes me feel awful.
And maybe because I just finished a visit to my own cold cape cod WASP grandmother who dislikes my Jewish mother and I’ve been the youngest left alone for the summer with gramma, or maybe just because im quite stressed right now; but I found the Jessie/kate plots very stressful. Not breezy. Finished because the tension of everything made me feel so bad I just needed to hear it resolve.
