I listened to the audiobook and listening to the narrator read in mostly a cheerful voice added to the disturbing feeling from this book. Trigger warnings abound. I'm glad I read it (FOMO) but it would be a very tiny, tiny group that I would recommend it to because it was a very disturbing book.

Very fun, but also very gross. Some laugh out loud moments. Ending was a little lacklustre in my opinion, but the first 90% is rollicking good fun. NOT for folks with a weak stomach!

A very quick and traumatizing read, to say the least! The book is well-written with the plot slowly untangling itself the closer you get to the end of the book. There's twist (not sure if I'd even call it that) that's pretty good around 85% into the book that's worth waiting for if you're struggling to get through. I 100% found the main character to be psychotic and not gonna lie, it messed with my psyche for a couple of days since it literally feels like you're inside the mind of a psychopath.

If you have any triggers, they're also all probably in this book. I had to skim past some parts because they were definite triggers for me. All in all, tight writing, interesting plot line, and the fact that you are rooting for (but also loathing) the MC will really mess with you. So if you're into that kind of thing, read the book. Give it a shot, if you don't like it, DNF it!

I really liked this, it reminded me of Maeve Fly a little bit. I liked the ending but wanted MORE of it.

I audio booked this and I highly recommend it as an audiobook because the Victorian turns of phrase combined with the narrators perfect I to action makes so much of this book so much more comedic.  This is not a typical storyline but rather an almost satiric depiction of victorian life where at times you aren’t sure who the real “psycho” is.  Scenes at the dinner table are grotesque renderings of gluttony and gore.

The best way I can describe this book is that if the narrator from The Yellow Wallpaper escaped at the end of the story and became a governess. It was disturbing and I couldn’t look away the same way one cannot look away from a car crash (complimentary). I found myself concerned with how often I was rooting for the main character despite the atrocities throughout the book. I laughed at things that shouldn’t have made me laugh and the humour interlacing with the madness as you anticipated the ending enraptured me so that I will be reading again. I was sure I had managed to predict all that would happen in the end, though one detail still managed to surprise me. If you would like a look into a disturbed mind from 1800s England, but still laugh along with way (albeit quite covered in blood), this is a book for you.
