Although this novel starts off a bit slow and seems like another "chick lit" novel, it becomes a deep connection between women and their relationships while tackling parenthood, marriage, career, and fertility. The characters are authentic and relatable. I was glad the ending didn't wrap up everything in a nice, bright bow. It was realistic and shows that the author understands how relationships work. I loved this one!
This should've been right up my alley but it missed the mark. I just hated Elisabeth, which made it hard to care about anything. It seemed like the author gave up on certain storylines, and this had the dullest epilogue I've ever read. Pretty disappointed in this one.
3.5. Good enough. Better than average. Not a masterpiece, but enjoyable.
Well written however touches upon many issues that are often never explained.
I have mixed feelings about this one. The story was reasonably interesting for a while, but once it became apparent that nothing was really going to happen, it got boring. The characters, especially Elizabeth, were honestly pretty awful. Lots of self-centered behavior, and it was frustrating that the ending didn’t wind up holding either of them accountable for their behavior. I kept hoping for a big twist, or something exciting to happen, but it never came. Then I hoped that perhaps the characters would have bigger revelations & some change in their thoughts/behaviors, but also…..nope.
Bottom line, it’s an easy read that’s mildly entertaining if you’re stuck on a plane or sitting on a beach. Nothing memorable.

Maybe 3.5 but closer to 3.
I was into the story but it was a slow burn and I kept waiting for more... more to happen, more to change, just more.... The two women were not perfect and sometimes made maddening decisions.
I felt like it didn't really go anywhere. It was one of those books that is more character development than plot - it was about the women and the places they were in life. How huge something seems and then later, sometimes even months, it's just gone. How different choices are made based on different parts of your life and where you are in the continuum. The judgement of other people without having any idea where they are in that scope. It did make me think, hence the extra .5.
I struggled with the ending - I need closure and didn't really feel like that happened.

Really a solid 3.5 but I am rounding up. I think this book needed tighter editing, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
The good thing about it taking forever for me to read this book is that the ending can make up for a slow beginning. It's one of those books more about the relationships between characters but also the many socioeconomic layers between college life and other people's successes or failures. Also loved how Elisabeth is so... unlikable? And you root for her to be better because you know she can, but it's great writing to see how superior she thinks she is and yet makes a lot of terrible choices.
I think this book just tried to do too much and be a commentary on too many things and it got very muddled for me by the end.
