4-4.5 stars. I couldn't put this one down. Sometimes a book just hits you at the exact right time of life. The characters' flaws were fascinating to me.

I would compare this book to one of those firecrackers that sounds like it’s going to be a big one, but instead ends with a disappointingly tiny sprinkle. I thought it was leading up to a twist or some kind of precipice, but nope. I guess it was an ok ride around the block, but I would have liked a more exciting destination.

Almost gave up in the middle. Glad I stuck it out. You love to hate Elizabeth and root for Sam 100%. It shows how it kinda totally sucks to be an adult. Didn’t really get that the main theme was mom but more female friendships and identity.

Blerg and blech. I did not find this ‘insightful, hilarious or compulsively readable’ at all. This is the second book of Sullivan’s I found BORING. It is well written (ergo 2 stars), but as with her book Maine, I found the story pedestrian and the main character entitled and annoying. This time I stopped reading. Life’s too short. Maybe it’s just the topic of women feeling powerless and bored in their lives that grates on me, but I think it’s the execution as well. Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires explores that theme in a far more interesting way — I really couldn’t stop reading that. ugh. I’ve spent too much time on a review for a book I didn’t like!

Y'all, I'm kind of at a loss for words with this one. This was definitely a case of judging a book by it's cover- so gorgeous right?! Not a lot happens in the story, it's definitely slower moving with a heavy focus on character relationships. I was intrigued and wanted to find out what happened, so I did end up finishing, but I was left wanting a little more. I think if you're a big fan of her, try it, but otherwise I would probably pass on this one.

I've never wanted to rip out my nails bc of a book. this one changed me.

I could not get into this. It seemed too close to Such a Fun Age and another book that I cannot recall the name of. I like those books but I could not get into yet another book of the same topic. I gave this about 100 pages, but just was not hooked in to continue the story with too many other books on my list.

I kind of hated this book. Scratch that. I kind of hated every character in the book, except one. Okay, two, when you count the baby. It’s impossible to like a book when you hate the characters. They’re all mostly horrible and obnoxious. Nothing really redeeming about any of them. And this book was too long. Way too long to read about hateful characters. One can usually rely on Sullivan for an easy and engaging read, but wow, this was easy but bad! And in retrospect, I actually kind of hate the way Sullivan writes about women in all her novels. But that’s all for this review.

Okay this book is undercover woke? I started off hating the entitlement of the main character and in turn being really judgey of the author, until I realized, IT WAS BY DESIGN! I find I am always duped by this writing technique
