This is adult romance?
I'm 45 minutes in and the main characters are still kids. This book might be good but this isn't what I bought the book for. I wanted an adult romance. I jumped to one of the last chapters and listened for a few minutes. While the characters are obviously adults at that point, the heroine is still portrayed as being immature. Also, I don't care for the style of this book, with the heroine telling the readers her life story through journal entries.

Cute. But very long for a love story where the guy who she ends up with is the secondary character. Go big red.
Cute, kind of like Junie B Jones or Ramona grown up. I’ll read the rest of the series, but it’s not going in my top 5 or anything.
3.5 stars. That Boy was clever, witty, and fun to read (and at times, hysterical). While I enjoyed it, the book did feel that it was written more for teens than adults. The author included cute drawings and notes throughout the story which made for an easy reading experience, and also bolded and italicized certain words to enunciate JJ's thoughts. But JJ's immaturity got on my nerves after a bit. I was frustrated that she never veered from her early focus on cute boys, despite growing older. I also wanted to just shake her and say, look at what's RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!
The book starts in elementary school, with the move of a new boy, Danny, onto JJ's street. The dynamics between JJ and her current best friend, Phillip, shift somewhat, but JJ quickly interjects herself into the boys' new friendship, and they soon become a tight threesome. It doesn't hurt that JJ is really into sports, and can hold her own when playing football with the boys.
The book narrates slowly (maybe a little TOO slowly at times) through JJ's life, up until right after college graduation. And it wasn't all happy and fun, either. JJ experiences a tragedy in high school that sets a more somber tone for her future.
But life is about moving on, and JJ does just that. And while it took awhile to get there, the ending was worth the wait.
NOTE: I did not realize I had gotten this book on sale for $4.99 until I checked Amazon later (the book is now selling for $9.99). While I did enjoy That Boy, I think the current price is high for a Kindle book.

That Boy is a book I have read quite a few times and often go back to when I need a "comfort read". I finally listened to the audiobook this time and I'm so glad I did- it was super fun!
So at the beginning of this book I think; okay, this will be a great cute book with a girl who falls in love with one of the boys next door. And it was that, but SO mich more. The main players, Jayden (JJ or Jay), Phillip, and Danny grow up on the same street. JJ and Phillip for all of their lives while Danny moved is during grade school. After a bit of a rocky start, the 3 become best friends and go through all their ups and downs together. Break-ups, make-ups, and devastating losses.
This book is so funny then heartbreaking then funny again. Most of all, its honest. While reading I remember being Jayden's age and having some of the same thoughts as Jay and her reactions to her life trials.
As far as the "who will 'that boy' be" when I started the book a really thought I knew; but as it went on I really had absolutely no clue until I was about 92% complete.
I am giving this 5 stars based on the fact that I truly enjoyed every minute while reading this.
On to That Wedding :-)
