3.5. I didn't realize going into this that it would cover such a large time-span and that did make it feel a little uneven in the sense that it was a very juvenile voice for a lot of the book and the voice didn't necessarily age. That being said, I did enjoy it overall since it was generally a light read (except for that one part that came out of nowhere and changed the tone for a bit), and I love a good friends-to-lovers romance.

Okay, I started this book because I was looking for a cheesy romance. What I got instead was a romance, but what felt like was written by a 15 year old in early 2000s.
The characters are lovable yes, but the way that the whole thing is written almost dampers them.

When the main character, JJ, suffers through an incredibly devastating situation - it takes a few pages as the reader for me to feel any sort of sympathy for her. It felt…rushed. You also don’t really see any emotional intelligence from JJ much throughout the book in general either.

I wanted to love it, I did. But I didn’t.
And I kept trying to love it because I didn’t want to DNF, still couldn’t love it.
I might just not be the kind of girl this book is written for, despite the sorority part tugging at my heart as an alumna (ah the candle circle, arguably the best part of the book).

If you’re into vapid characters, with no worries in the world of money, no seemingly overwhelming issues, and the emotional capacity of a milk dud - then check it out.

I thought this was going to be a summer love triangle fun read. Man, I was wrong. She was awful and then her parents died and she was insufferable. She didn’t develop at all after the death of her parents so why did the characters need to die? What purpose did that serve?

Ugh this book was so good I would have finished it sooner if I wasn’t in grad school. I can’t wait to read the next one!! I have to say I wasn’t expecting any sad parts but there were a few chapters back to back that hit me hard and I was not expecting them or prepared for it but it was so worth it.

I was really stuck between three or four stars on this one. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy this book. It is definitely YA romance though, which is less my speed. The only aspect I didn't really enjoy is how they started the book chronologically with the main character being so young. It just wasn't interesting for me to read about her in junior high, and I feel like once she graduated high school was when the book started to get good, which was about half way through. I also just felt like her parents death was unnecessary and they really just glossed over that like it wasn't a major life altering event.
Besides those things, I did enjoy this in a very teenage sort of way. If I had read this in high school, I know I would have been obsessed with it. Definitely a younger writing style, but nice in an easy read sort of way.
