As a buddy read, this was a pretty fun time. On a personal level, all the qualities average out to a very mid read for me.

Some aspects of Bride are done well. I know some criticism of this book is based around a... thing... included in the spicy scenes. I didn't mind that at all, and in fact I think the writing of those scenes was done really well. I can absolutely see why Ali Hazelwood is popular with her other contemporary romances. But in this story, I didn't care about the main characters at all. If I were to really get invested in them, I'd be happier with the spicy scenes. Granted, that's a me thing and not everyone needs it. But Lowe is a bland piece of Alpha toast, as basic as you can get a werewolf who's supposed to be the "nice guy." The miscommunication trope was. So. Irritating. Most people get immediately that this is omegaverse inspired. Knowing what I value in romantic relationships, I knew going into this that I'd have basic problems with a lot of the hierarchy and ownership that's intrinsic to that general nook of the internet. That went exactly as expected. I found those pieces not to my taste in the least. I also didn't like the world building. I found it incredibly flat.

The top marks I'd give it are in its engagement, because I flew threw it. Granted, a measurable portion of that was wanting to be done and see what the resolution was to this thin plot, but... Overall it's fine.

Ali Hazelwood may only really know how to write one relationship dynamic, but by god does she do it well. I was honestly surprised that I did enjoy this. I thought that Misery was a fun character, and that she was a great lead. Lowe was kind of There, but this is how I've felt about most of Hazelwood's male characters, and his character served the function he needed to fill. I liked the overall world, I enjoyed the overarching mystery, and I liked how the epilogue opens up a really great potential for a series.
