Written in vignettes this is a woman’s ruminations on a long-standing family estrangement. It is a fantastic and compulsive read.

Jag lyssnade på Hjorths Sommarprat förra året och det är därifrån jag valde att lyssna på boken! Den är väldigt grov i delar och tar upp måna tunga ämnen även om det görs på ett realistiskt och försiktigt sätt för läsaren. Kolla på triggar varningar om du vet med dig att det finns delar som är jobbiga! Det var delar i boken när jag inte ville läsa vidare men tyckte mycket om språket. Hon använder sig av enkla ord och gör språket lättförståeligt även fast det är ordentligt och vuxet. Det var en lite längre bok men jag är glad att jag lyssnat på den! Jag rekommenderar ändå den, men förstår 100% att det inte är en bok för alla! Den är väldigt repetitiv, men viktig och intressant!

Non avevo aspettative, nel senso più letterale. Non sapevo cosa aspettarmi. Questo libro è stata un’esperienza. 

Due case, un’eredità, quattro figli. Un lutto che squarcia il velo che ha coperto per anni l’impalcatura instabile eretta per nascondere l’indicibile. L’incapacità di comunicare, l’impossibilità di vedere l’altro, l’allontanamento inevitabile dal terreno fertile della riconciliazione. 

L’eredità materiale nasconde il peso gravoso dell’eredità psicologica, del fardello accumulato durante l’infanzia che sembra costituire il nucleo intoccabile di ciò e di chi siamo destinati a diventare, ma anche dell’evoluzione che avranno le radici che ci tengono legati all’albero che ci ha dato la vita, ai nostri genitori. 

Una scrittura coinvolgente, ma a cui secondo me bisogna un po’ abituarsi. Le prime 100 pagine possono sembrare lente e inutilmente ripetitive ma servono a far immergere il lettore nella mente della protagonista, per far sì che chi legge faccia propri gli stati emotivi di chi si racconta e le implicazioni del suo rapporto con la propria famiglia.
