3.5 stars rounded up. I enjoyed this book overall. Rory is “The Main Character” if best selling author, Genevra Ex’s, new book. Genevra treats Rory, her brother Max, ex-fiancée Nathan, and best friend Caroline, to a three day trip on the Orient Express to celebrate the books completion. But Genevra has more planned for the group than she’s let on. But all is revealed in her new book.

I loved travelling through Italy in this book. The scenery and locations described were amazing. The train ride was also very enjoyable.

What I didn’t like was that each chapter was told by another character so I had to flip a lot to remember who was speaking. And then we got Genevra’s backstory in between. There was just alot of stories and a lot of perspectives that got quite tangled at times.

But everything came together at the end, and I was very satisfied with the ending.

the beginning of this book drew me in and something did keep me going but i’m not sure what. the pacing for the first 250 pages was slow and then a whole bunch of things happened and a whole bunch of things were revealed and then the book was over.

The Main Character by Jaclyn Goldis is a complex story of secrets revealed like layers of an onion, keeping the reader guessing up until the final twist at the end. Yet for me, it never quite captured my imagination, and I found it easy to put down and difficult to pick up again.
Given the premise, I was intrigued and really wanted to like the book. But the author never managed to make me care about the characters, who seemed to me to be immature and self-absorbed. All of their problems could have been avoided to some extent if they had just been open with each other, instead of keeping secrets.
The settings, where lavish, especially that of the Orient Express train, also fell flat for me. And the twist at the end is, in my opinion, a tad bit far fetched and difficult to believe, given the things revealed throughout the book.
The book is proficiently written, but falls short of the suspense it could have had. It's not one that will stick with me, which is a shame for such an interesting premise.
Thank you for the ARC of #TheMainCharacter to #NetGalley.

The summary of this book had me hooked and I loved the setting of the Orient Express. I really enjoyed the first half of this book and read it over the course of one afternoon. However, I do have to say the second of the half took a different direction than the first and it felt slightly chaotic. There were too many plot points going on and coming together at the same time. It felt like a lot of the revelations came together in a way that muted their thrill factor. Overall, I found this to be a good domestic thriller with more emphasis on domestic drama than a straight thriller. I would recommend with these caveats.

Interesting setting and I love Agatha Christie mysteries! But, no one can write a mystery as well as she does - this novel included.

I’m not a huge fan of fuel timelines, but it was necessary for this story. The characters seemed mostly to be terrible people with horrible motives that I could not connect with.
The ending was abrupt, but a little unexpected which was surprising.
Pros: fast read, nice setting, good twists
Cons: AC this author is not, meh ending, terrible characters

The Main Character is a great thriller. Jaclyn Goldis wrote a thriller that had intrigue, mystery, and twists and turns. I picked it up and did not want to put it down.

The setting of The Orient Express was amazing. I love the description of the different suites and could picture them as the book continued. The towns that the train stopped in were familiar to me but not places that I have visited before. I enjoyed seeing the sights, visiting the cities, riding the train, and meeting the characters.

Jaclyn Goldis is a must-read thriller author. I will continue to recommend her books, including The Main Character, to all my fellow mystery thriller readers.
