Hannah Mary McKinnon consistently delivers thrillers I love to read and enjoyed every bit of this one.

Vienna is a drummer who feels her best next to her best friend, Madison, a guitarist and lead singer. They have a new all-female pop rock band, Bittersweet, and are on top of the world.

On the way to an event, the van carrying the band goes off the road. The temperatures are harsh, and one band member is killed in the crash, with another severely injured. They find an cabin to survive the night… except they don’t. One by one the band members perish, and Madison disappears. What happened to them?

There are a number of characters, and I love that about this story. Each one added something important. I highly recommend this one to closed-room mystery fans. Only One Survives is a masterful twist on this type of story and my favorite from McKinnon thus far. I wanted to give her a high five at the end. Well-done.

I received a gifted copy.

This book felt longer than it needed to be, and I did want to stop listening to it around the 77% mark. The end was fine but not the end I was hoping for. Overall, just an average thriller book to me.

I really enjoyed the latest from Hannah Mary McKinnon. A thrilling page turner about an all-female rock band who had a catastrophic accident where (no surprise) everyone died either at the scene or in the aftermath at a cabin they found. Dual timeline examines how the two leaders of the band met and formed their group, and then expanded it, and how it all fell apart. McKinnon did an excellent job of incorporating a twist, and then doing it again, and upending everything I thought I knew.

Up and coming rock band The Bittersweet was on its way to becoming a success. In a split second, an accident on their way to a party in the Catskills in a snowstorm not only destroyed their dreams, but it also took the lives of most of the band members. What seemed like a horrible accident is now being investigated by the police.

Looking back, the band started as a high school duo with drummer and songwriter Vienna pairing with guitarist and singer Madison to form EmVee. Vienna had a difficult home life while Madison, despite appearing to have it all, had overbearing parents who disapproved of her playing in a band. The duo eventually expanded into a five-member band. As the story shifts back and forth, it is unclear what truly happened on that icy road and at the cabin where they sought shelter until they could get help. Was this more than a tragedy? As the police delve into the accident, the public also becomes involved, with fans divided on social media into #TeamVienna and #TeamMadison camps. As the storyline goes from past to present, the tale of two best friends who live to play music shifts to a band dying one by one. Is one of them a murderer?

Hannah Mary McKinnon's Only One Survives is dark, twisty and unputdownable. Amid all the intense and chilling action, McKinnon adds her sense of humor to the endless fan blog posts. Buckle up for a wild ride.
