A well told story about an undiscovered tribe in the Amazon. The main character travels there with his grandmother who is a famous writer for International Geographic. They are searching for the Yeti. There is an element of supernatural as the main character is befriended by a shaman. I had trouble putting this one down!

definitely does not "appeal to all ages"... this is a quite silly YA, i would say for 10-12 year olds, and really really should not be sold in regular shelves. I was disappointed.
3.5 because I did enjoy the story but for some reason I did not love the narration/prose. Maybe if I had read this book 10 years ago I would have liked it more.
I’m genuinely surprised at some of the harsh reviews folks have given this book. It’s true that this isn’t your traditional YA story (less focused on love, more detailed descriptions, and so on), but it’s still a great story and keeps with the tradition of magical realism in Allende’s writing. While some of the western savior narrative can be problematic, overall, I really enjoyed the writing, story, and the characters.
This is really like Indy Jones, though unlike her adult books, Allende tells too much instead of showing.
What is interesting about this book is the amount of background as well as action Allende packs into the book. During the journey in the Amazon, the characters of both Alex and Nadia are totally real as are most of the supporting characters. A good quick read for an adult

Con un ritmo pausado, tranquilo, pero que te envuelve y te atrapa, Allende nos sumerge en un mundo fantástico donde la magia aún es posible, poblado de indios capaces de hacerse invisibles y desaparecer entre la bruma e imposibles seres prehistóricos que sobreviven al paso del tiempo y a la evolución en ese entorno a penas violado por la mano del hombre moderno. Mezclando fantasía y realismo, nos deja varios mensajes importantes a lo largo de la historia: el más relevante, la necesidad de proteger los tesoros naturales de nuestro planeta y a aquellos que los habitan de quienes solo ven en ellos una molestia y/o un medio para enriquecerse.
El lenguaje que emplea es sencillo y muy descriptivo, hasta el punto en que te sientes transportado a esos paisajes selváticos y misteriosos como si fueses caminando a través de ellos junto a Álex y Nadia. Los personajes, en general, también están muy bien definidos y puedes ver su evolución a medida que van superando las pruebas que el entorno dispone a su paso. Algunos giros bastante inesperados, además, ayudan a mantener la tensión que planea por encima de todo el relato hasta prácticamente las últimas páginas. Poco más puedo decir sin desvelar los puntos esenciales de la historia.
