5 Magical Stars~~~
My eyes never left him that night and I watched —hardly
breathing— as his graceful fingers uncovered the ribbon’s edge, as he gently tugged until it came free, a thin shimmer of gold. He turned to me and knelt on the dais stars, holding the ribbons between his hands. “Before you decide anything,” Cartier said, “let me say a few words...”

HOLY TRUCKING CHICKEN DUMPLINGS!!!!!!
What did I just get myself into??
This was just hauntingly beautiful but the moment Brianna was stolen I wanted to beat the shit out of people. I loved Jourdain, Luc, Cartier/Aodhan, Neeve, and Ewan. *sighs* I want people like them to just be in my life, because where the fuck are people like these??!! The way that Brianna is trying to make everyone happy in the MacQuinn household just breaks my heart. And the fact that Aodhan’s mother is still alive SHOOOK ME! Really enjoyed the fact that Jourdain had the courage to adopt Brianna and take her in as his own daughter.
BUT, when Aodhan began hurting (even early on) I hurt with him. He grew up thinking he was a different person, but then he was told he was a future lord. His father died a few years earlier, his sister died the night of death and despair, his mother was taken (and eventually had her hand cut off as well as her tongue) and now he is left with a broken home that me must fix. But he has someone to lean onto. She basically gave him life and he realized that she was his future.
It crushed my heart that Ewan and his sister had to go through a childhood like theirs. An abusive father (and an abusive grandfather) with no one to go to, they endured such pain that even I felt as if I went through the same thing along with them. They’d be locked up in the darkness and beaten if they didn’t do what they were told to do. I can RELATE to A LOT of things that happened in this story, but I am glad that I learned some things while reading this story.
I had already fallen in love with the characters when I read the very first sentence from the first book; The Queen’s Rising and didn’t bother reading the blurb for The Queen’s Resistance.
I loved the ending scene where he (Aodhan) realized that he had to find the ribbon in order to earn Brienna’s hand. That just made my heart turn into goo and made my legs weak af. If I had the chance, I would definitely jump into everyone one of my favorite books and become a new character, playing a new role, but doesn’t everyone?
Definitely recommend this (and the first book) to everyone. 💀💀🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️🙆🏻♀️

I enjoyed this follow-up to the Queen's Rising, though I felt initially irritated by the sudden switch to alternating points of view. Brienna was the main draw of book 1, but in book 2 Cartier gets half of the chapters for his own perspective. The political intrigue is a smaller scale, but a satisfying book overall.
