This book is a genuinely enjoyable read, just nothing particularly special

The sequel to The Queen's Rising picks up immediately where we left off. But if you think this is going to full of romance, you're going to be disappointed (although it is there).

This book feels much more political and darker. It focuses on the trial of the previous Lannon king, his family and followers, with the main characters learning of the crimes they've committed. Some of this includes murder, torture, disfigurement and rape (although not described). The coronation is for the rightful Queen is also being arranged against the threat of a rebellion from those loyal to the Lannons.

Unlike the first book, this one includes Cartier's (Aodhan) pov along side Brienna's well. I enjoyed seeing his perspective, especially as he is someone who is Maevan but also feels like an outsider. He must learn and deal with the tragedies and horrors that have befallen his family and Household.
Brienna is also a little more nuanced, a little less the perfect ya heroine - she actually has to work to make people like and trust her.

One thing I particularly liked about this book, is that it focuses on what happens after the successful uprising - something that doesn't seem to feature hugely in ya books. It deals with the repercussions, the grievances, that not everyone will be thrilled by the change of the status quo.

A slightly slower read than the first, but with greater depth of story, characters and worldbuilding, this is a tense and enjoyable conclusion to the duology. I wouldn't mind if Rebecca Ross returned to this world in the future.

The Queen's Resistance was even better than The Queen's Rising, which I didn't think was possible.

Now that the king has been overthrown, it is time for Maevana to heal and for the queen to ascend to the throne. But it won't be easy. There is the question of what to do with the former king and his family. And there are traitors lurking in the shadows at every turn.

This book had such strong themes of found family, duty, and love. I adored the entire thing. There was a healthy balance between the intrigue, action, and romance. I just can't get over how well Rebecca Ross crafts her stories.

I highly recommend everything she writes.

As always this was another great book from Rebecca Ross. I loved getting to know these characters in the first installment and how much they developed in this one. The first one was really good—the sequel wasn't totally necessary— but I liked how she continued the world. There were so many good reveals, and I couldn't stop reading or find any reason to put the book down. Ross also brought out more of her romance element in book two and I LOVED THAT! She writes about love and friendship so beautifully and it's one of my favorite aspects of her books. This was fast-paced, full of intense moments, but also wrapped up so nicely. Brienna had so much growth, too, which was great. I also liked the dual POV; being inside Cartier's head was cool. This was a great read for me and I'm not surprised at all.

Rebecca Ross absolutely knows how to write fantastic and heartwarming stories with beautifully woven endings. "I love the heart that is within you...I love the spirit you are forged from..." Wonderful.

I LOVED this book. I literally couldn’t put it down.
