It rarely happens that I manage to finish a series, even a duology, within a month. Usually I let the last book rot on the shelves for ages. In this case I was however very curious what would be waiting for us in the second book. Especially because at first glance it seemed that the first book had quite a nice ending and finale. I therefore didn't hesitate to get myself a copy of the sequel and I didn't hesitate to dive into it either.

The first book needed a little time to really grab me, but I knew once I started this book that this was everything I had hoped it would be and maybe even a little bit more. A lot of series indeed stop where the first book in this series ended. There has been a fight, the guys we wanted to win have won and now it's time to restore the country, install the right queen and let the law decide what we're gonna do with the bad guys.

And that's basically what this book is about. The aftermath. What needs to be done to get justice? What needs to be done to find the people who are still siding with the old king and his family? How hard is it to get the trust of the people? How reasonable are the people? And since we're reading this story from two perspectives and since their characters are heavily involved in everything I was on the edge of my seat from the first page.

That was also because the writing style of the author really seems to fit my reading style. I can really feel all the emotions. I know what the characters are feeling. I know why they're feeling it and I know why they're choosing to do something with those feelings or not. And because it felt like I knew the characters so well it was incredibly easy to root for them. I wanted those characters to get their happily ever after. And I hoped it was mostly a matter of: How?

A great sequel to this duology, I enjoyed it greatly.

My biggest ‘criticism’ of the series is that the bravery, skill, and mental strength of these sheltered 17/18 year olds (mainly Brianna and Merei) is astounding to a degree that feels unrealistic at times.
