"We must continue moving forward. We must continue uprooting darkness and corruption and replacing it with goodness and light"
Hey guys, so I finished The Queen’s Resistance (The Queen’s Rising, #2) by Rebecca Ross. It left off right after the events in the first book. There was hardly any lag, once you were pulled back into the story, it was a rollercoaster from there. One full of deception, betrayal, drama, secrets, revelations, action, thrills, danger, horror, sorrow, darkness, light, love, relief, joy, just...everything man. This book had everything. I dare say it was better than the first. This one had more plotting and strategizing and action taking and I loved it. I also loved how it was the aftermath of the consequences to their actions from the first book. All too often there is a rebellion, and thats it. The authors make you think oh yeah, rebellion happened, everything is all goody goody now. This is so not the case, especially in this book. Our beloved characters are faced with another challenge, another villain, one that could unravel all they have achieved. I actually really enjoyed all the danger in this book. This book was definitely darker than the first, dealing with more sensitive subjects, the darker aspects of human nature. not sure if it would be a spoiler to put the nature of the subjects...eh. So yeah, this book had everything. And it was told through a dual pov. I really enjoyed that, getting inside both of the prominent characters minds. Brienna is dealing with her own stuff, like trying to fit in, within a place she thought she belonged but is uncertain. She thought it would be easy to fit in, all because she was a daughter of that soil. But not quite. Her exact heritage made her one to be scorned, something she wanted to change. But change doesnt happen over night. And actions speak louder than words. And she is also struggling with other issues, and she has to come to terms with all that stuff. But Cartier, damn bro, he got a whole mess of issues. My poor sweet baby. Wow. I didnt realize just how much he suffered, until this book. I mean, i kinda knew, but reading details, whew. Man. It struck deeeep. So he has his own demons to conquer. And of course, for once, they try to deal with them together, kinda. Ugh, i just love them both together so much, I was dreading if anyhting broke them apart. I also liked how we got to learn more about certain characters, they were in the first book, but in this one, we get to know more. I just loved the underlying themes of this book, loyalty, love, bonds, etc. And that you can still have a choice, even if you think you dont. Brienna ultimately chose her path, and so did Cartier. It was so beautiful. I was crying by the end. Everything was just so riveting. My soul couldnt take it. I really enjoyed this story and I would like for there to be more short stories about the characters in the future, or even about some of their pasts. So yeah, it was a great rollercoaster ride and I am sad it has ended. Alright, I think I rambled on long enough. If you guys have anything questions or comments, drop em below. Till next time. Bye.

I thought the first book was amazing. This book just continued that for me!
I love how this book literally continued from the same day we left off at at the end of the first book and just continued the story. This story was filled with so much fraught and thrill and adventure.
There was so much that happened in this story that really truly tested everyone’s relationships and their own sanity really. I think these books really showed that you are stronger than you think you are, that you ARE capable of things you wouldn’t think you are capable of, and never let anyone tell you otherwise.
I loved the continuation of Brienna and Cartier’s story. I loved being able to read from Cartier’s point of view this time along with Brienna’s. I just wanted to know what was going on in his head, and this satisfied that want. These two have the ideal relationship that I think any would desire. I just find them adorable and thought this story had the perfect ending

This was SO GOOD. A nice easy read and ending to a duology and the characters' story (but I'm SO DESPERATE FOR MORE). I loved the world that was built and all of the political alliances. I got serious Scotland vibes from the duo, which just made me love this story even more. Definitely a good story!

I have spent the past couple months reading all of Ross's current works, and it's been a really interesting, unplanned/unexpected project. I didn't start out 2024 with a plan to do this (tbh I don't think I'd even heard of Ross until this year)...it just kind of happened lol. It's been pretty neat to see how her writing has evolved and her style becoming more apparent.
They all have similar themes but I did enjoy her more recent books a lot. I think if I had started reading out The Queen's Rising series, I probably wouldn't have looked up more of her works. I think this duology is probably her weakest, which honestly considering they're her first two books, is totally understandable. I would recommend either of the other duologies or her two stand alone novels if you're looking for something that has a bit of light fantasy/magical realism with a side or two of romance.
As for The Queen's Resistance specifically, I didn't love it. There were a lot of detailed descriptions of violence while still being kind of a boring read. The plot was intriguing and follows the aftermath of a regime change that happened in Book 1, but a lot of the action/change felt dragged out. I noticed a few inconsistencies and there were a couple lines near the beginning/middle that repeated almost like it was missed in the edits. I also didn't feel like the two romantic leads had much chemistryand I don't think having them spend so many scenes apart helped develop their relationship. At the end where they're supposed to be having this heartfelt moment, it just felt kind of cringey to me unfortunately .
I felt that the accents in the audiobook were inconsistent, especially the two young children who are supposed to be siblings...one sounded vaguely Australian and the other vaguely more British? lol.
