I received an ARC from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.

I think that The Queen’s Rising was one of the most underrated and under appreciated books. This sequel will not disappoint fans of the first book. I loved being back with Brienna and Cartier. And the ending!!!

My full review can be found on the Epilie Aspie Chick blog!

Thank you to HarperCollins for providing the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

With this sequel, the shift in tone and story direction are so strong I could barely recognize the world it was in. So much of the story now is centered around politics between the houses and holding power that I couldn't keep up with what was going. Since there was no guide to assist in remembering, I found myself quickly skimming pages and losing interest.

This may be my Aspie side struggling to understand the social aspect of what was happening within the story, but what I do know is that I wasn't able to keep pace with it (much less understand it).

Full review to come but I absolutely LOVED it!!

I disliked this even more than the last. Glad it's over.

2.5 rounded up.
The recap was ANNOYING I skimmed the first chapter ugh. Picked up RIGHT where we left off and spent a lot of time reminding us who people were / what happened - this should have just been a longer standalone (~600-700pages)

Too many hidden identities. The names... come on. Pls just swap to one consistent name. Most of Cartier’s early segments seem unnecessary and just full of fluff.

This feels so fanfictiony at times. Some portions of this were underdeveloped. The plot is thin, but there’s a lot going on. The amount of secret identities and half siblings in this is so convoluted and unnecessary and EXTRA not everyone needs to have 6 different families.

The coronation being a potluck lmaoooooo. A lot of these friendships feel underdeveloped, and a lot of the responsibilities characters have disappear when it’s convenient for the plot.

I still find the relationship between Brienna - who is 18 - and her 28-30 year old TEACHER WHO MET HER WHEN SHE WAS 10 creepy.

I am obsessed with this book! I reread it a thousand times.
Its defintely more complex than the queen's rising. In the first book, you get to read about a country ruled by an opressive king, and how a rightful queen has risen above the ashes to reclaim the throne, it was good. But this one is great! It dives deeper into the life of every character after the queen was placed. You get to see their problems and the developement of the relationships between them. This book has a main romantic couple with a predictabe happy ending and its definitely a break from most books nowadays which I LOVE about it. Hope you guys enjoy it!
