Again shouldn't have taken me long to read but life got in the way. Anyway, I wanted to strangle Andie!! That girl I swear, if she wouldn't shut up about her frekaing "life plan" I was going to go all banana sandwich.

Argh I'm slightly conflicted about this book. I love the story but I just have issues with everything else. It's 2.5 stars.
1) some parts were hot and steamy and some party where agonisingly boring and longwinded.
2) the dialogue was really sexist at times. I mean "she was mine first" and "the best man won" SHES A WOMAN FOR CHRISTS SAKE NOT AN OBJECT YOU CAN WIN!!!!. little sexist comments throughout the book really annoyed me.
3) I have a slight issue with the cheating which isn't looked at as cheating but still is.
4) Andie explained everything to Bradley on the phone but once he arrived at the ranch he had no clue about it anymore? not sure what that was all about
5) whats with the fighting near the end?? I'm British so maybe I don't know, but I didn't think all because you're in rural America, it gives everyone the right to throw punches at each other?

So this book presented a first (or at least a first in a really long time) where I didn't have any issues with this book until the end. Usually the end produces the redeeming value, where the book was the opposite. I don't mean to say that the ending was terrible, I just felt that there were some flaws with it that I didn't necessarily witness with he first half of the book. Throughout most of the book, the heroine, Andie, had a pretty wishy-washy inner dialogue. She couldn't decide what was best for her. Her indecisiveness, though, led to inaction or emotional outbursts. At the end of the story, her inner dialogue finally affected her actions more. She began telling people multiple and opposing things. I felt like this didn't match her confident and ornery personality. I understand that she was having a complete restructure of how she ran her life, but I felt like it went too far out of her personality range.
Beyond that issue, I felt like the characters were lovable and developed well. Their story was intriguing and maintained my interest throughout the novel. I would be interested to read more about other characters in the story.

I can't believe I waited so long to read this book! I LOVED it! So good! This book was funny, sweet and sexy! I can't wait to read Ian's story! Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a really good stand alone romance novel, then "Shine Not Burn" is a great choice. I really enjoyed the witty banter and the chemistry that was created between the characters - Andie and Mack.

Andie is your type-A "control freak" that is a slave to her "lifeplan" that she created at age fifteen. Andie heads to Vegas for her friend Kelly's bachelorette weekend. Everything changes when she meets a sexy cowboy - or rather spills her drink on said cowboy - at a blackjack table.

Gavin "Mack" MacKenzie is a gorgeous cattle rancher from Baker City, OR. A single guy, who considers himself "picky" heads to vegas for his younger brother's bachelor party.

Andie and Mack meet on the casino floor at a blackjack table. After a steamy night together something that Andie never expected happens...and doesn't stay in Vegas.

The story picks up two years later with Andie headed to Baker City, OR in search of Mack.

Four Stars!

I liked the story, there were some deliciously steamy parts, and I loved the palpable chemistry between Andie and Mack. I am a huge fan of banter/sass and I found myself smiling and laughing through a lot of parts. The story also had plenty of its tense/awkward/angsty moments and sometimes I just wanted to shake Andie and get her out of her head!!! But I loved the ending, and it was so worth it! I am a HUGE fan of series, and as much as I would have liked another book about what comes next for Andie and Mack, I was happy with how it ended.

I had been seeing a lot of high ratings for Shine Not Burn and that made me nervous. I don't always love the same books that the majority of readers do. In fact, the good reviews usually build it up so much and then I end up disappointed. Thankfully, Shine Not Burn was even better than I was expecting.

We've all heard the expression, "What happens in Vegas, stays on Vegas" and it's almost become the mantra of all visitors to Sin City. The beginning presents is with Andie who is invited to celebrate a bachelorette party in Vegas. She doesn't want to go and uses work as an excuse. She is convinced to go, considering it is for one of her best friends. Nothing spells trouble like 3 women alone in Vegas. Especially for a woman like Andie who has planned everything in her life. And I mean EVERYTHING. Spontaneity is not her thing.

Once in Vegas, the girls prepare for their night out. And this is really how hilarity begins. Candice made me laugh... A true ditz, the things she says will make you LOL for real. Drinking begins and soon enough, all three are in various stages of inebriation. The bachelorette in question gets sick and Andie is temporarily left alone. She soon spots a gorgeous cowboy playing Blackjack and as she is making her way over, trips and spills a drink in him. Their chemistry is instant and undeniable. The two end up sharing a heated night together. And even beyond the sexual intimacy they shared, they have an emotional and intellectual connection/bond.

After their sexcapade, he asks her to do something. We don't see that part of things because the next morning she's waking up with a hangover, in her own bed, with no signs of Mack the cowboy.

Fast forward two years. Andie works the same job and is engaged to a man she works with. The catch? She used to hate him. Her friends no longer speak to her and her assistant has lost respect for her. She's in the midst of finalizing wedding plans when trouble surfaces. That trouble in the form of a marriage to one Gavin MacKenzie - yes, that delicious Vegas cowboy!!! So off she goes to Oregon to straighten things out. And trust me, you'll be so excited she's doing this!
She goes to ask for divorce but Mack doesn't want that. And you have to hand it to the sexy man, he sure does his best to prove they belong together. He is adorably sweet and obviously sexy. It'd be hard to deny this man anything he wanted. Andie definitely gives it her best. There were several times when I felt the need to smack sense into the woman. I understand she had a plan for her life, but sometimes fate steps in and shows you something better. This was the case here. I found myself chuckling quite a few times when reading Shine Not Burn. A lot of times, my heart was melting though. Mack is a brilliant character - sweet, yet a bit of alpha in him. I've never seen the appealing cowboys until I read this book.

The silly parts are great:

"I pulled the troll doll out of the bag and looked at it. 'You were supposed to be good luck, you little bastard.' I arched my arm back, ready to launch the little traitor out into the dust, but at the last minute I held back, thinking about how Ruby had looked up to the heavens when talking about this damn thing."

"She held something wrapped in tin foil up above her head like she was the Betty Crocker Statue of F***ing Liberty or something."

And then there are the sweet moments:

"'I'm going to make love to my wife now,' he said, his voice deep and soft, a sexy promise I was ready to beg him to keep."

And the combination of both:

"'I, Gavin MacKenzie, sexy cowboy man of Baker City, Oregon... being of sound mind and hot body... do hereby declare that I love you, Andie Marks, lawyer extraordinaire, and want to be married to you until I'm so old, I either die or my pecker falls off.'"

Shine Not Burn is a cute story, with a lot of sweet and sexy mixed in. It's perfect when you're looking to enjoy a fun read that won't stress you out. I'd rate it high at 4.5 stars.

Great read. It reminds me of a movie I'd see on Hallmark... only with sex.

I loved this book. I laughed out loud was sad when it was over! Funny, smart, sexy leading lady with real woman curves and a tall, hot, sexy cowboy. They share a very funny sense of humor that had my husband and kids asking me what I was laughing at. It was refreshing for the man to be more forward with his feelings for once. Great dialog, steamy sex and great secondary characters. I can't want to read it again.

This was an absolutely ridiculous book. Cliche of getting drunkenly married in Vegas. Super annoying and flighty heroine with a hot alpha cowboy who loves her... For some reason? Skip.

What is it with these rushed ending nowadays! So annoying!!!
