Fun story about a girl who lies to please other people and how her life changes when her best friend from middle school who was run out of town after exposing a cheating scandel that cause the football team to forfeit the state championship game returns and has transformed from nerdy to hunky.
I've read a lot of Meg Cabots books but I have to say this one was not a favorite. While it wasn't a bad book and I dont regret reading it, but I probably wouldnt read it again.
Another frothy fun girly read in the vein of the Princess Diaries books and most of Cabot's other titles for teens. High school senior narrator Katie has it all: dating football QB Seth, while kissing drama hottie Eric on the sly. She's boy crazy, and not really in love with Seth, but she can't figure out how to dump him, because she's been dating him so long they are the town's IT couple. This small New England town is known for "Quahogs," (pronounced CO-hogs, which I thankfully learned from listening on CD) which are 1. local oysters, cooked dozens of ways, and 2. the high school football team, which hasn't lost a state championship in over a decade--except for one fateful year, 4 years ago, when they were disqualified over a cheating scandal. Boo, major blight on the town's worship of the almighty Quahogs. The football-worship borders on Texas extreme: even in the local restaurant where Katie works, there's one special booth always reserved for any drop-in football jocks. The main point of the book is that Katie isn't being true to herself, so she lies to just about everyone, saying what she thinks they want to hear, so that she'll remain in their good graces. But when Tommy Sullivan comes back into town, after four years of exile as a result of his role in revealing that aforementioned cheating scandal, Katie can't believe how sexy he's become. They had been friends, before, but now she can't stop thinking about kissing Tommy. And of course, because the whole town hates him, she feels she has to keep his return a secret. So here come more lies. Everything finally comes to a head at the Quahog Princess Pageant, in typical Meg Cabot over-the-top silly fashion. I enjoyed this book, but it took a chapter to get into it; Katie is very self-absorbed, sounding much like Princess Mia or some of Cabot's other characters, as well as kind of immature for a supposed high school senior. And I almost needed a scorecard to keep all of the characters in this book straight in my mind. But it's a fun read (or listen, as the case may be).
As an amateur liar I thought it was kind of cool, but I'm beginning to notice that a lot of Cabot's books are, like, "I'm in a dramatic situation. THEN something else happens, and now I'm in an even MORE dramatic situation". And every time something new happens, the main character has to stop to say "AND NOW, ON TOP OF dramatic situations A, B, C, D, and E, NOW I am in an even MORE dramatic situation!"
Which gets a little old. It's like There Was An Old Lady who Swallowed a Fly as applied to teen romance narrative.

This book wasn't the best Meg Cabot book I've read, but by the end it had a lot of epic-funny scenes that only Meg can do. I was laughing really loud! :D hahaha.
I wish the story had more stories (?) (it makes send in my head), but it was a fun read :)

beyond idiotic. "what is *wrong* with me?!?! i love so many guys and i love making out and blah blah freaking blah." that was the entire freaking book. save yourself the brain melt and skip this one. i would never want to put anyone through reading this garbage.
she's beyond shallow and conceited. there's no real plot other than "i like making out with him but i like making out with him too but oh i can't believe i like making out with TOMMY SULLIVAN!!!!" shut the hell up!
i can't believe i wasted my time reading this. i only finished it because i felt that since i'd gone through the trouble of purchasing it i should at least get through the whole thing. that was literally my only motivation for actually making it to the end. do yourself a favor and don't bother with this terrible excuse of a book.

This was maybe more of a 2.5... I enjoyed it, but I think it's kind of predictable and probably ultimately forgettable.
If you want an easy fun chick lit young adult book then this is for you. It's not complicated high literature or anything. At times I kinda rolled my eyes thorough some parts. It can be cliche and the main character is not the most likable or sympathetic person. But I really liked how Meg Cabot didn't spell everything out at the beginning. You figure things out along the way through the dialogue. I listened to this on the book on tape and enjoyed the way it was read.
Another book from Meg Cabot. Her writing is good, but, she needs to widen her range. Her books are all starting to sound the same, and only small twists in the plots are the differenciating point.
This was not (in my opinion) her best book. Even if you hadn't read any of her others, it still isn't the best read. From the beginning I knew who was going to end up with who, and what was going to happen, reactions and such.
Though, I was a little sad that her parents (and the entire town) were so okay with this worshipping that was going on. that pretty much scared me.

This was an easy listen while the kids were at swimming lessons each day. It was not one of Meg Cabot's better books, since the main character is unlikable at the beginning. But it was a much lighter read while my current hard copy book is about World War 2.
