I absolutely hated the first 200 pages but it definitely got better after Grayson stopped being weird

Greyson really pissed me off. And left me feeling confused and concerned
DNF @ 70% because I felt like I was going insane.
So the way our main characters are connected is this - Greyson is driving recklessly for an adrenaline boost late one night and rams into Violet’s car at 100 MPH. Greyson is uninjured but Violet (a career ballerina) needs extensive surgery on her leg and is told that she will never dance again.
That’s where we START.
The author’s note tells us that Greyson says “I don’t grovel. Ever.” but I’ll be honest I expected Violet to be at least a LITTLE angry??
How is it that she never ONCE past their FIRST interaction blames him for her accident? He is quite literally the sole reason all of her hopes and dreams have been ground to dust, and on top of that he released revenge porn of her, blackmailed her into giving someone else a blowjob, and goes out of his way to publicly humiliate her at any opportunity. Does Violet ever once stick up for herself, give him any shit at all, literally even express anger or frustration? Nope!
I guess his dick is fucking magic because every conflict amounts to: Violet ignores Greyson for as long as he lets her, dubcon sex scene. That’s it. There is literally nothing else that convinces Violet to not hate this guy’s guts. He just fucks her and she seems to forget everything he’s done. I felt like I was being gaslit by this book
Greyson and Violet could’ve been fun but EVERY interaction I just could not understand why she wasn’t going fucking insane near this guy. I mean she just literally does not care that he is the reason her life has fallen to pieces. And he does EVERYTHING to make her angry. At a certain point it just got fucking weird, he keeps doing all the terrible stuff to her but you as the reader are just left confused as to why this shit is still happening because the author has proven time and time again that Violet isn’t actually gonna be pissed past maybe a paragraph. Why should I give a shit what he’s doing to her when I know she’ll spread her legs for him no matter what?
Forced into giving a stranger a blowjob? She’s buddy-buddy with the stranger the next day and doesn’t even care that this is literal sexual assault, and she never brings it up to Greyson. He dumps beer on her in front of his entire hockey team and half the dance team? She seems to forget it happened as soon as the scene ends. Him running what is essentially a smear campaign with his PR agent that causes her to face intense isolation from all her peers? She doesn’t even think to blame him for that, for some reason.
My breaking point was when he offered to pay for the therapy to fix her leg and she said “I don’t want to take advantage of you like that.” HE BROKE YOUR FUCKING LEG AND YOU LITERALLY LIVE IN CONSTANT PAIN WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE THIS ISNT BY DEFINITION THE BARE FUCKING MINIMUM.
I can't. Violet is pathetic and annoying and Greyson is a silver spoon nepo baby who needs to get his ass beat

There was so much going on in this. I struggled through the first 70%…it felt long and I couldn’t find any real connection between the characters other than lust. I did enjoy the last 20% of the story quite a bit but it sort of felt off to me. Violet was weak throughout the entire story. But Greyson was all over the place. He was a dark character, seemingly devoid of emotion or compassion but then in the last 20% he suddenly found it all. I feel like I missed the switch that got flipped. Maybe the minute he realized they were on the same side against his dad? I honestly don’t know. He was obsessed with her from the very start but was never nice to her…until the end. And then he just flipped into the compassionate white knight.
The book was way too long, in my opinion. For my tastes anyway. I think I do better with shorter books when it comes to bully romance. I almost gave up around the 60% mark because I hated the dynamic between them and how it didn’t seem like it was changing at all. I’m glad I stuck it out though because I did really enjoy the last 20% a lot. So much so that I’ll be continuing the series.

Are you going to find literary genius in these pages? Absolutely not. Does it have plenty of plot holes? Yes. But the smut is good and the story holds up well enough to turn your brain off.

This was my first time reading S. Massery and tiktok had led me to her. I'm not mad about it. This book is about Greyson Devereaux and Violet Reese. While this book certainly would not be for everyone, I thoroughly enjoyed their story. In fact, I devoured this book quickly and couldn't get enough of it.
Violet is healing from an unexpected accident that had sidelined her dance career. Greyson was the brooding young man that had a rich father and could get away with anything. Both are college students and what began as a chance meeting of paths crossing since that fated accident soon turned into something neither of them were prepared for.
It is filled with angst, humor, that alpha male possessiveness and even a sprinkle of mystery. If you like dark romance, bully themes, heavily possessive then you will enjoy the book and yes, it has an HEA.
If you are expecting Greyson to become soft, he doesn't. He remains true to his own character throughout the entire book and I love an MMC that doesn't because a complete pussy but can still have a moderately contained soft place to land for the lady. I love their dynamic and the chemistry.
This book has triggers so be mindful and happy reading.
