great read

I really enjoyed the book. It was truly a dark romance. Definitely a new fan and I can’t wait to read more from this author

I loved every single part of this book. EVERY SINGLE PART!

Is it dark? Yep!
Is Grey possessive? ABSO-FREAKING-LUTELY!
Did I stay up way too late reading this book because I couldn't put it down? You know it!

Loved the chase. Loved the protectiveness. Loved the suspense element of the story.

Grey & Violet's story just might be my favorite of the month.

Can Willow be the female lead in the next book? PLEASE!

If Teddy Hamilton has no haters, I’m dead⚰️

That aside, this book wasn’t that bad or as dark as I thought it was gonna be. Greyson was likeable towards the middle and end when he became 90% sweetheart. I feel like the ending with the stalker was kind of rushed? It was revealed one chapter, dealt with the next. The stalker plotline in general was lacking a bit and could’ve been expanded on more for being such an apparent threat/deal in Violet’s life.

A bitt

I will be back to add more later once I collect my thoughts I'm sure but for now...

This book was exactly what I wanted and more. This had all of my favorite dark themes (stalker, bullying but even more, dub con, blood play, and more) while also having the softer side of romance that I love.

Greyson and Violet were never meant to be together. She was the ballerina, he was the hockey god and a spoiled arrogant SOB. His twisted fantasies and possessiveness over ruining her made me question my sanity! I liked that he stoked the fire inside Violet that she didn't even know she possessed. Violet is extremely likable from go. She faces her own battles mentally as well as physically due to the accident but she is strong and has a great support system in her best friend Willow, who is also a wonderful character. Further, Vi is tough. She showed fear to Greyson when necessary but I think that overall her character was well rounded in that she never backed down even when fearful. Violet went head to head with every challenge he threw her way and proved herself to be a worthy partner, not that that's the point it's just an observation. I also really enjoyed her dark side and her asking for things as the story goes on. She comes out of her shell with Greyson and honestly with other bullies in her life and it shows how much her character grew under Greyson's watch. And Greyson... He wasn't unlikeable as crazy as that may sound. Even from go he had a bit of softness to him that he only showed Violet. I liked the change in him at around the 65% mark. Up until then he's kind of ruthless but when his edges soften it made my heart happy, especially knowing I had a good chunk of the book left with this side of him on display.

The actual plot was busy I will admit. There were a lot of loose ends that needed to be tied up by the end of this story but Massery was able to make it a satisfying end for each. I think that these plot lines were more ways for the characters to gain trust for one another. Could I have done with one less? Yes, definitely, but it was enjoyable in this aspect nonetheless.

Greyson and Violet were a match made in Heaven, or as Grey said, Hell, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. This was such a fun read from Massery and I am so excited for the next book in this series, focusing on another member of the hockey team, Steele (who has a pretty large presence in this story) and I'm HOPING his story is even better than this one, it involves his step sister...

Side note: If you were a fan of The Ritual but felt like it was a bit too dark for your liking, this may be the perfect book for you. I LOVED Ryat in The Ritual but I definitely felt like the themes were too dark and the dub con was TOO dubious for me. Here, Greyson reminds Violet all she has to do is ask him to stop and he will. It's a constant throughout the book and a reminder to readers of the respect the author takes with her content. Yes this book is dark but it teeters which makes it even more enjoyable for readers like myself.

Definitely on the darker side.....sometimes made me wonder why she wouldn't think this was assault. But by the end I loved them together.

emmyb6's review against another edition

DID NOT FINISH: 36%

I literally never review books, and I can handle some pretty dark romance stuff, but apparently I’m not a bully romance girl. This was very rape-y/assualt-y to me.

3.5 it was good but I had to skim through some parts bc I don’t love the bullying aspect

unhinged. no words. just when I think i’ve seen it all. 600 pages in 2.5 days. but like it’s a blur and not in a good way.

Honestly, unsure. It wasn’t great, but I was along for the ride. It felt like you kept waiting for it to blow your mind, and then it just fell off. But strong lead up to disappointment. And like interesting story world.

Speechless -slight spoilers

Ok so first things first my emotions just went through a rollercoaster of a ride. I was peeved off at the beginning of this book but I couldn't stop reading. Every time I got to a plot twist I looked at how far I was in the book and realized that it wasn't the climax (in more ways than one). I do see it being a little choppy and not flowing perfectly but i was still able to continue. This book had some good suspense (which fell flat once in my opinion) but I was definitely on the edge of my seat. I read this in one day so I hope that says something as well. Ok please read the trigger warnings before reading this book, the warnings for consent and assault are very real in this book (+more). Overall I enjoyed it and will definitely be reading the next book.
