It was ok for a historical book. The narrator for the audio book was bad, I had a hard time keeping my attention on the story.

It’s amazing how little geopolitics has changed over the last 200 years.

Exciting yes. Insightful or even honest, not really. I was pleasantly surprised because I had actually expected More Islamaphobia but still, Jefferson is misrepresented and the whole history is dumbed down to a distracting degree.

An interesting look at a little remembered time in history and the beginning of the American Navy.

I call Kilmeade my 50 Shades of Grey history. He isn't very analytical in his writing. He provides a story and he writes the story in an enticing manner. His books are always a fun read, but I'm a little abashed to include them on the shelf with my real history books.

I couldn't even finish this book; I was not able to get past the Islamaphobia, "American Exceptionalism", or "Christian Exeptionalism". It is also insulting to anyone with an interest in history to detail the experiences of White American slaves held captive along the Barbary Coast with not a mention that at the same time there were literally millions of enslaved Africans in the United States receiving similar (if not worse) treatment.

Such a shame, because this story and its history are something that does deserve study.
