I wasn't too sure about reading another 'pandemic book' or another animal themed book, however this isn't really firmly in those categories and has enough light moments to carry the pandemic theme without being too depressing.
A really enjoyable story and something a bit different.
My only minor criticism is I didn't find the romances very convincing and the main female characters didn't seem very rounded. But enjoyable overall nonetheless.

Not Forgetting the Whale is set in a remote Cornish village peopled with loveable eccentrics. One morning, an investment analyst washes up at the beach. He's fled London, thinking he's brought down his entire bank and he has narrowly escaped drowning. He stays on in the village and becomes instrumental in helping them to navigate an upcoming crisis.

What saved it is the timing. It's a book about a major flu pandemic and I read it while in lockdown for Covid 19. This gave it relevance and grounded it in plausible events and that saved the book for me. Really it was a 3 star book but that elevated it to 4 stars.
However I am a curmudgeon - I think I wrote a variation of that in my review for all the books listed above - so there is every chance you will like this more than I did.

Ein wundervolles Buch. Der Schreibstil ist großartig. Die ungewöhnliche Situation, in der der Hauptcharakter sich befindet wird sehr zugänglich und nachvollziehbar gemacht und mit Weisheiten gefüllt. Außerdem fesselte mich Der Konflikt zwischen Joe und dem Pfarrer (Religion und Logik) sehr und ich konnte das Buch nicht mehr weglegen. Eine absolute Empfehlung.
