LOL

My cousin introduced me to Seinfeld around the time that my oldest daughter was born, so a little over 14 years ago. He moved in with us for a while and brought his extensive DVD collection so I binged watched Jerry, Elaine, George, and Kramer and I loved them. I've been a fan of Jerry's ever since. I love his sense of humor. A few years ago when we were living in Germany, I was able to stream his Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee on Netflix and I binged it too! My husband came in the room several times and asked if I was still watching it. I hope to make a live show someday. All of this to say, that I've been wanting to read, Is This Anything? and finally picked up a copy a few days ago. 2021 was a hard year for me and then we had a big move across the country at the end of 2021 so now I'm currently dealing with a lot of anxiety that has stemmed from all of that and this book was the pick me up that I needed. I belly laughted through most of it. So much that my youngest said she was getting annoyed because my laughter was disprupting her video game. I felt like I read the whole thing with Jerry's voice and inflection in my head which made it even better. If you like comedy or Seinfeld, grab Is This Anything?

Fortunately, I listened to the audiobook, always the best way to experience a comedian’s material. The earlier jokes often fell flat and did not stand the test of time (answering machines, for example) or were even a little cringe-worthy (weather girl). As the jokes became more current, though, I sometimes found myself laughing out loud or even smiling at one of his observations (ex: garbage). So if you like Seinfeld, don’t give up reading/ listening to the book-he’s got some gems hidden in here.

Rating this 5 stars because it was a good escape once in a while. You could easily read this in a day because it's just old bits of his stand-up. It was great to pick up, read for 10 or 15 minutes and do nothing but laugh. Does every joke hold up in this 2021 world? No, absolutely not. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how many jokes were still hilarious and I learned that I deeply prefer the dark humor of Seinfeld of the 80s and 90s, compared to more recent bits.

Highly recommend to anyone who needs a smile this year.

I’m not usually one to post reviews, but this book was the one in 2020 I didn’t know I needed. By far the best book I’ve read this year because it doesn’t try to be anything it’s not. You can hear Jerry’s voice come through in the writing and it made me audibly laugh.

Did Jerry just compile 40 years worth of jokes weve all heard him perform and is now selling it as a book for $35 a pop? He sure did! I earmarked six out of the 450 pages. I laughed out loud at none. Feels like hes dooped his fans with very little reflection on his career or new writing. Not what I was expecting. You will find more joy in watching free Seinfeld reruns on TBS than picking up this regurgitated scope of Jerry’s work.

I don't tend to read what books are about, so I wasn't sure what to expect when I started this audiobook. It was the perfect 7 hours of standup to listen to!

Just a book of bits from over the years. I approve.

this is definitely something! i listened to the audiobook and was pretty amused throughout

Some of this was the signature content I expected, but I can’t get past how many times it was unfunny and even offensive. Blergh.
