I absolutely loved this book. I swapped between the ebook and audiobook, and honestly, both were a fabulous way to consume the story. The narrators are wonderful, but the words themselves are beautiful and flowing, making it an absorbing and enjoyable read.
The subject matter at times is tough, and it's so endlessly frustrating in many ways, but that's what makes this such a human and enriching story.
I liked the split POV and feel that it was so strongly written that even when we were covering Selasis's side of the same story encountered in Akorfa's narrative that it didn't feel repetitive.
I wanted to take this book slowly and did that during Part One, but once we got to Selasi and started catching up to their adult lives, I just couldn't stop reading. I wanted to see how the story would close, and Part Three brought everything together perfectly and gave me the ending that I hoped we would get. Much like real life, there is an element of ambiguity and openness to the closing of this novel, but I also felt this chapter of their lives had the conclusion it needed.
I'm so glad I picked this up due to its Women's Prize Longlisting and feel that I could come back to it again in the future.

This is a beautiful story of two girls growing up and experiencing the same events with completely different perspectives, ultimately leading to resentment, estrangement, and finally, reconnection. The Ghanaian setting was wonderfully described. There is so much in here about women’s roles, familial obligations, race and class in America (specifically being Black in America). While the first half was both fast-paced in terms of the time jumps, it dragged a bit for me because I didn’t love Akorfa’s POV. However, the second half was totally gripping hearing the same events from Selasi’s POV. I would definitely read from this author again.

The writing style wasn't something for my liking, but that is fine. I still managed to read it - but the way the stories were told wasn't to my taste.

The start was slow in my opinion, but it picked up the pace around page 90. Up until this point I was sure I'd rate the book a 2.5-3 stars. I just didn't like to read about Akorfa and her side of the story, but my interest peaked when I reached Part 2 about Selasi.

Selasi was much more likeable, and some of my suspicions from Akorfas POV was justified. I won't spoil it, but Akorfa made me rage. Selasis POV made this book better, and made me give Nightbloom a better rating. The ending is not very believable, but I still liked it.
