I was disappointed with the language of the book, amused because the protagonist was in the autism spectrum, but able to figure out the Rosie's father from early on.
This was loads of fun. A little predictable, but fun. I'll read the squeal.
This was a really cute and fun book. The two main characters, Don and Rosie, are offbeat and know they are offbeat, accepting their weirdness. They are also both willing to work on themselves and aren't completely stubborn. Bringing those two together makes for a perfect couple and even though it takes them a while to see it, it's fun to read the journey.
I am not overly familiar with contemporary fiction that deals with romance, but I had been challenged to read this book by my other half as part of our annual reading challenge. I was in the mood for something a bit different, having read a great deal of dark fiction, fantasy and sci-fi in the previous months. This certainly did the trick and ticked the box for me. A male author, Graeme Simsion, writing a novel from the point of view of a male character, Don Tillman, was something that appealed to me about this story. Don, as a character, is a hoot. Blunt, scientifically minded and completely fixed on his routine life, he comes into contact with a woman named Rosie who is the opposite of what he considers an "ideal match". There is romance here, but this story is more about how different people are, and how we can try to change ourselves for people, but we should always really be true to our nature and wait for someone who accepts that side of us. It has lots of humour which I enjoyed, and the characters all offer something different to the tale. It was a very easy read, and it captivated my attention more than I'd expected it to, and I can honestly say that I thoroughly enjoyed The Rosie Project, and look forward to reading the follow-up soon.
I cannot even begin to explain how much I enjoyed this book. I was seriously laughing out loud while reading it! So many smiles, cannot wait to read the next one. Kudos to the author!
While funny at times, what I enjoyed most here was the window it opens to the way a quirky mind of a person with Asperger's diagnosis might work. I'm not sure if this is accurate in any way, but it makes sense and shows the uniquely human and tender qualities of such a mind. Although the characters, including the main protagonist, are not fully developed, the story is engaging if not compelling all the time.
