2.5 stars. This was reasonably well written, but it was just so boring most of the time. Christine was a pushover who did everything to try to gain Tor's affection. Meanwhile Tor was infatuated with her and yet unrealistically did everything to suppress and deny his feelings, which generally entailed acting like an ass. I wanted to shake both of them. Also, all of the secondary characters weren't very developed.

4.5 rounded to 5! This was such a well researched and engaging book. I loved Tor, the male protagonist. Both the romance and political intrigue kept my interest the whole time.
This was fun! I remember hearing about Robert Bruce when in Scotland and it was fun to read about him (even tangentially). This definitely had more political aspects to it than I am used to in romance novels - but that was part of the fun of reading it.
I'm giving this a solid 3.5/4 stars. While it was a good book, it fell a little short for me. I did enjoy the romance and both characters were interesting. Christina started off as a strong character but I felt like she got a little lost towards the ending. Tors character stayed strong and true to who he was but he too, faultered a little at the end. I think the ending in general felt like a quick fix which might be what bothers me. The rest of the story had depth though. One other thing that bugged me a tiny bit is that Christina would think one thing and then the point of view would flip to share Tors thoughts on the same thing. Not that that's a bad thing, but it happened too frequently and the thoughts were a little too drawn out that I feel like it took away from what was happening.
